Slingshot's happy ending

Jynx

Digger, RN
For those of you who remember Slingshot's story, I finally got him back home! :D A friend of mine has been keeping him since my fiance and I seperated, just until I got back on my feet. She really loved having him around and has always taken pretty good care of him. Since she doesn't have any snakes in the house, I let him stay a while to "keep her company." She is also Rick's fiance (Rick is my ex partner), and we did not end the partnership on good terms. It sort of worried me at first letting him stay there after Rick and I went our seperate ways, but I trusted her.

I hadn't been able to get over there and see him for about 2 months until the other day. Since the blow up between Rick and I, she has been distant and our friendship is not what it used to be. I expected that though. I didn't expect her to take it out on my snake. I was absolutely appalled at what I saw! Poor dear had gone for who knows how long without water, had lost a ton of weight, and was fighting a bad shed and a horrible RI. I'm not sure if this is a personal vendetta and nor do I care anymore. I'm just happy to have him back. It gives me a chance to do what I do best... baby and pamper my kids :) Of everyone, I'd say that this guy would have to be my absolute favorite snake. This is an old pic. I will try to get a recent one soon.

That's too bad if this person let a poor snake suffer to punish you. I'm glad you've got him back. I'm sure he's tough, and he'll bounce right back now that he's home. :)

I really hope the poor conditions were not on purpose as a way to 'get back' at you or anything. That would be so unfair to the snake. Well good job getting him back, that person does not sound like they deserve to own any pets,

Glad to hear he's back home. I bet he's happy too. I hope all goes well. We'll be looking forward to updates and pictures. Slingshot's sure a nice looking boy.

Wow! I'm so glad you got him back. He is a gorgeous boy, and I hope all goes will with him.

Sounds like you got him back right when he needed you most! I really do hope that the neglect was not intentional, that would just be awful.

He is a very pretty snake though, and Slingshot is such a cute name (I can see why you game it to him, that head marking is great)! Here's hoping he bounces back very quickly for you. :)

good to haev him back! Just don't worry about intentional neglect or not, those pages of your live are closed now as far as I read from this thread though. Most important thin is indeed; you'll be able to get him back in shape very soon and you'll have something to focus on and care for except your own person which is a good thing I think!

so your friend is now with your ex? good friend ;) glad you got your snake back before it ended up dead.

LOL no no no... her fiance is my ex business partner, Rick. Both were very good friends of mine for some time. They are however both living with my ex-fiance now, in my ex-apartment. I'm sure that has something to do with this ordeal. Nothing but a gigantic soap-opera, complete with the drama. I'm glad I got out in time.

As far as Slingshot's progress in the last 2 days he's been home, so far so good. I manually removed all the leftover pieces from his shed, and he is now sitting comfortably in his hide soaking up some warmth, with a nice sized rat pup in his belly. I don't know when the last time he ate was, but he was a hungry boy. I felt pretty bad saying "No love, you can only have one until I can tell how you'll handle it." Upon closer inspection, there is a large area of cracked scales on his belly, and in general his scales are very dry and brittle. Does anyone have any sort of in-home remedy for this that has worked for them? I was thinking some sort of shedding-aid may help. I'm sure he just needs to rehydrate, however I'd like to keep humidity down because of his RI.

Goes to show that sometimes, you can just bever trust anyone. I don't care about attacks on me, but don't take it out on my animals. *sigh* Its sort of hard not to come at them with my temper blazing and tear them apart, but I know it will be a moot point and it will only make matters worse. The only thing I can do is nurse him back to health, and in the meantime be the bigger person.

Wow Jynx, it sounds like a real ordeal for both you and Slingshot. But I'm glad he's back in your custody and will be getting lots of TLC.

This is just a thought, and I've never tried this or HEARD of anyone trying it for that matter, but do you think you could dab some olive oil onto the dry patches? I know it's very moisturizing and *should* be harmless to a snake.

Please keep us posted, K?

I did hear about oil being no good remedy for shedding problems with leopard gecko's, because it does 'close in' (don't remember the proper word) the skin too much.

I think geckos are a little different from corns. I used olive oil on my chondro when she got tape stuck to her, and it didn't hurt her a bit. Just made her really soft. I'm sure it would be fine for a small area of scales. I was going to suggest upping the humidity a touch until it next shed, but with an R.I. I wouldn't. I'm sure he'll shed soon, and be back to his beautiful self.
