Snake burrows in substrate

Hello i just got my first corn snake and hes great but instead of hiding in his hiding boxes/objects that are located both on the hot and cold side he burrows down into the substrate. I am curious for some reasons why he burrows down. The second thing is i have had him for about 5 days and not once has he gone to his water bowl please help. Other then that he is a healthy eater and is begining to tame :puke01:

When we first got our snake she burrowed. She would only hide her head and have the rest of her hanging out lol. But I think its because before we got her they didnt have any hides that she could go INTO. Now when we put her back in her home she burrows her way to her hide lol. Its always the most round about way, but they use what they like the best. No worries :D

Not to worry, I've got a few that prefer to burrow under the substrate rather than use the hides that are provided. I have to "dig" them out at feeding time. Hey, if they're happy and content, I'm tickled to death :grin01:
Welcome to the forums

Thirded!

And about your drinking concerns, it's very likely that you just have not seen him drink. Just make sure the bowl's easy for him to get to, he won't go thirsty.

Mine always managed to get underneath her waterdish and hide despite having a hidebox/cave...the first time she hid under it we thought she escaped because at the time it seemed impossible for her to get under there. I've been underestimating the intelligence/strength of Indy too much. >_>

Hahahaha...mines the same way! She's dug out a little cave under her water bowl, and is ALWAYS under there, with her little head poking out when she's awake. She has a whole underground railroad worked out and can get from hide to hide without ever reaching the surface!!!
