Snake for Christmas!!!

So, my husband is the best! Look what I got for Christmas :D He's about 6 months old, eating fuzzies every 6 days, and very tame!! I am a bit disappointed as he comes from a big box pet store (I prefer not to support their pet trade) but he seems to be in good health and from what hubby describes, all the snakes and reptiles he saw were kept nicely in their own enclosures and appeared healthy to him SO I'm not going to worry about it overly much....

Here's the pic he took when he got him. More to follow soon after he settles in! Is he a ghost? The store folks had no clue as to morph. He looks ghosty to me.

Here's a few more pics we snapped really quick as we were putting him into his new house! He is very yellow until midpoint, and is turning peachy. Can't wait to see how he turns out! This will by my first baby to watch the progression on :D He is also super calm so far, and is peeking out of his warm side hide checking everything out

There is so much variation in morphs! He is just lighter on the front half of him than I would think which is why I was thinking ghost...? Someone on Facebook says masque too but I don't know much about that gene or what the markers are for it...

He's beautiful! What a sweet gift. Looks like a total love bug to me. Congrats and Merry Christmas!

Congrats on your early Christmas present! Very pretty! I also noticed you were getting in the Christmas Spirit with these nice colors ..... :)

Lol! Didn't even notice the bandaid photobomb! Yep it's cartoon themed bandaids in my house with 2 small children..... truthfully I like them better than the boring kind :D

I have settled on a name... *drum roll please*..... Ninja! Everyone, I would like you to meet my new little buddy, Ninja!

About him: he weighs 36 grams, and is probably about 18" long but just guessing there. Approximately 6 months old. He eats 1 fuzzy weekly, amd according to the feeding record he came with, they just switched him from double pinks to fuzzies 2 weeks ago. He is my first baby snake, I only held him long enough to snap a few quick pictures but I am already head over heels in love! Of course!

I LOVE his coloring! It's really hard to pick up from photos but he's got this sandy peachy tan color coming in, and I think he's going to continue to yellow up, that's my favorite part!

Merry Christmas everyone, thanks for loving snakes as much as I do so I can gush all about mine to people who feel the same :D

Most likely not masque. I don't think those are "split" belly checks, and the "nose band" isn't particularly wide.

Someone on a FB group mentioned he is possibly masque anery or hypo anery... or just anery. I know you can't "know" without breeding trials but I will test him out one day! In the meantime I like the conjecture :D
In some pics, he looks anery. His black looks black. The flash totally washes out all the subtle colors and makes the yellow glow neon which is a bit crazy. Without flash, he looks like mud. All the colors just run together. I have terrible room lighting and in the PNW almost no natural light anywhere right now :awcrap: In reality, his coloring is somewhere in the middle. The black doesn't look BLACK. It almost has a wash to it. It's not brown, but, it's less than black. I tried aiming one of the lights on the track light in my room down a bit so I could get some better lighting and NOT use the flash.... This is what I get:

Blurry, but shows colors pretty well

Pink cheeks :p

The best I could do for a "top down" without blocking my light source:

For comparison, here, full length with flash. FYI the blanket he is on is deep chocolate brown in reality.

He also has a couple sections of aberrant pattern, in one spot his saddle looks like a sad puppy

Very nice belly, and I love his yellow sheen running down the sides.

His Yellow Rat Snake cousins would be very jealous

He must be just an extra cute anery :D the pet owner in me justthinks he's beautiful no matter what, of course, but the wannabe-someday-breeder in me wants to know if he has any hidden hets.... :p

I am in love with his yellow! For being so bright as a baby I think it will really pop as he matures! My other snake is motley so she has a clear belly... I definitely love the checkers!!!

He is so beautiful! I just got my first snake (yay!) that I have been begging for 7 (almost 8) years! I tried to hold him already but he is definently a wiggle worm :p All he wants to do is explore right now :p

Thanks! Congrats on finally getting one, they are so great! Don't worry, sometimes the babies can be pretty squirmy but they usually calm down after a couple minutes!

Just some pictures of Ninja, he is starting to come out of his shell even more and seems to have quite the personality. He doesn't run away from us anymore when he sees us from across the room, and is very content to settle down and chill wherever you place him, for the most part. Until you try to put him back in his home... He tries so hard to beat me to putting the lid back on. He has an amazing feeding response as well so that has been fun!

My daughter and he have really taken to each other, it's pretty cute :D

More awesome pictures. He's really beautiful. I see what you mean about his pattern and checkers. I also know what you mean about the flash bringing out the yellow. It sure does.

It makes me smile to see how loved Ninja is :).
