Blue Sky Reptiles
My 40g female Kenyan Sand Boa, Andouille, is all blue, and I took her out of her tank to check on her. She had not yet shed, so I was holding her for a moment while my roommate did tank maintenance and re-moistened the paper towels in her damp hide.
While I did so, my 9-lb kitty Jasmine came over to say hi. The first 3" of Andouille's body were dangling off the edge of my hand, and Jasmine came over to get a good sniff. I will let her smell the snakes, but I am very careful and watchful to avoid any injuries. I didn't expect what happened next.
Andouille jerked. Jasmine hissed and ran away. We didn't know what had happened. We checked Andouille, but she was fine. No injuries, no odd behaviors. She resumed limp-noodling off the edge of my hand.
We checked Jasmine. Her little pink nose had been bloodied. We figured it out: Andouille bit Jasmine and drove her off! A 40g snake bested a 9lb cat. A 40g snake who had never attempted to bite, ever.
Moral of the story: Don't mess with a blue KSB. She may be tiny, but she will own you.
