great looking litter, well done it looks like there are doing well, is she on her own this time and the dad out of the way, it is hard to know what to do with them, both of cages with my breeding mice in are due any day luckily both the dads are really good and tend to help look after the babies.

http://www.fancymice.info/index.htm

This is a good website if you need any tips on looking after your mice, your babies look about 7-10 days old they start opening there eyes about 2 weeks and then you can take them out and wean them at about 3-4 weeks once they can eat and drink by themselves.

How old and how many snakes do you have??

Yeah I read a little about mouse genetics....seems some of the genes I've got are not so lovely after all. I discovered last night that one of them is a brindle...and they don't usually make it past 2 weeks :(

Looks like that one is getting fed off.

Maybe I read it wrong....but I can't find the site now. It was saying that there are several genes that seem to be fatal in their homozygous form...."fatal yellow" was one...I thought it said brindle was another...and possibly one of the white genes too. I dunno....

If they are lethal in homozygous form, just make sure not to breed 2 brindles or 2 yellows together and you should be fine.

Ok will do. I'm still new to mouse genetics....it's a mystery to me. Wouldn't it be nice if every clutch of corns could be so varied as mice babies are!

Ya know....these things really should come with a warning label....they are just TOO CUTE to feed!

wow, whata lovely assortment of colours yes they do look too cute to feed but needs must. I have the same problem in one of my cages I just get normal brown and white mice but my other girl does seem to be getting some nice colours, I keep saying oh I will keep that one and then before I know it I am going to end up keeping more then I will be feeding.

If you are going to freeze any of yours at a later date can I ask how you kill them, thats if you can bring yourself to do it.

Well it seems this batch will all be keepers. I bought a 1.3 group of "plain white" mice for breeders....and when they have pinks they will get put in the freezer as pinkies. Anything larger would be euthanized with CO2 and then frozen... I will probably get a paintball type tank if I ever get to that point.

snap same here then.

It seems I am the same as you all the normal ones seem to get fed and all my pretty ones I am finding homes for, I have just had two litters and removed some of the pinkies, you are better off leaving a couple thpugh as it is good for the mum to get rid of her milk. Good luck.
