So.... Last Night I Became a Hooker!

I hope your daughters understand the context of said "hooking". LOL.

But seriously, great pics, and I know y'all had fun!

gah, I'm so jealous. I can't really do herping like that around here. All my time living in Wisconsin I've only saw 2 snakes that weren't garters/ribbons.

Steph, all the mitchelli subspecies have an incredible amount of variability in terms of color, pattern, and "look". You can find two different Southwestern Speckleds in the same area that lok completely different. I've seen three different "looks" to the Panamints in my area, less than 20 miles apart(used to be classified as speckleds, as well). My guess is that they have varying patterns and color to more closely represent their native habitat.

Very nice pictures, and congrats on becoming a bona-fide hooker!

Thanks guys, you know, I never used to find anything when herping really, till my friend Chris taught me how to road cruise.. And hes right, thats the best way to find anything. SO thanks Chris :D

SO they are both mitchellii then.. I did just read earlier today after posting this that the mitchellii are quite variable. I still need to find Mojave greens, Great Basins, and Diamondbacks. Plus a whole other list of Colubrids that I haven't seen yet.. :D This is quite the journey and I am loving it :D

Eric, they where right there with us while we where 'Hookin' so they know what we mean :)

Thanks guys :)

HA! Not a whole lot to teach! "Drive slowly on paved back roads after dark. If you see something...stop. If not...keep looking." Difficult stuff, there, ain't it? ;)

Hey well I never thought to road cruise lol.. You told me to try it, take your credit and shut up dangit!!!! ;) GOSH!!! LOL....

And I have asked lots of questions about it that you have answered like temps, weather, paved unpaved roads etc.. So you have given me good info that I have used ;)

I went for a small drive tonight.. maybe 50 miles cruise.. Nothing tonight..

I think I miss understood you Steph.. I thought you figured they were sidewinders.. Your right.. Speckled, I have never found any RCing yet.. Chris has an awesome area to go, he gets some cross over species I won't find in my area.. I would think he would get some Helleri's out there...

I get three rattlers, Mojave's, Side winders, and what I consider really elusive for me, the Speckled..

Regards.. Tim of T and J

We are supposed to have five out here, the Sidewinders, Speckled, Great Basin, Mojave Green and the Western Diamondback.. I have only seen two of the five so far..

I did see a big Crotalus tonight though, I am guessing it is a different variety of the speckled again?? I'll post the pics in here..

Here is the one I saw tonight...
