Soda, Pop, or Coke What do you drink?

I used to always say coke, but then once I was ordering from a drive through here in New Mexico and said Coke and they gave me a coke... I was used to the "what kind of coke?" stuff from Louisiana. Now I usually just say what I want instead of calling it coke...My grandparents in Louisiana call them "cold drinks"
:roflmao:
Exactly, Aaron.
In Louisiana, in a drive-thru/drive-in, when you say coke, they say "will that be coke, sprite, dr pepper, mountain dew, or lemonade?" One might even answer that the coke will be a coke coke. Or a regular coke coke.
Seriously.
:roflmao:

I think it's pretty evenly split between 'soda' and 'pop' in my area. I find myself saying both at one time or another, though I probably use 'soda' 90% of the time. Up in the upper peninsula of Michigan I find that the use of 'pop' is prevalent. Though when I go through a drive-through or at a restaurant or whatever I don't say 'soda' or 'pop' (or 'coke', if I said that), I just cut out the middle man and tell them what I want (mountain dew, sprite, whatever)

In NH we order it by name. A Coke is a Coke. A Pepsi is a Pepsi. A Mountain Dew is a Dew.

If you are talking about the general, it's a soda!

A soda is a soda, not a pop, a cola or a coke.

~AND~

A sub is a sub, not a grinder or whatever else they call it!

Where I come from, it is not a hoagie, a sub or a grinder....it is a grinda :)

Always been "Pop" around here, always will be "Pop". Soda will get you weird looks, Coke will get you a coke, and Cola will give you a "huh?"

Pop!

Constant arguement at home, settled by telling the bf, who spent time in Cali, that Soda is that brown stuff (pepsi) and Pop is mine (mountain dew).

I NEVER heard it called anything but pop until college!

EXACTLY! This is how it is around here as well, in fact WE laugh at people that say Soda.
My room mate moved up here from North Carolina and we would laugh at him every time he said Soda. Felt kinda bad for him after a while.
Now he just says what he wants, i.e. sprite, pepsi, coke... etc
Personally I don't like anything carbonated but it sure was worth it to join everyone in giving my room mate crap all the time saying "LOL at those East Coasters!".

DYK that sounds soooo strange to me. I agree with Heather...

So it sounds like if you order a coke in Louisiana, they ask you what kind. Wouldn't you just say what kind? What do you say when you actually want A COKE? I want the coke kind of coke? Coca Cola? I guess it would be like just ordering a "soda" here. It's just going to make them have to ask you what kind, so why not just say it to begin with. :shrugs: Facinating. :)

I dont know Carol. I have been out to places here and I always order Diet Coke, and my bf orders Dr Pepper. I havent heard people ask for coke then others ask what kind of coke. My dad did say though that it happened like that when he went to Atlanta.

I used to be addicted to dr. pepper, now I'm tending to find it not very tasty...though maybe that's because the past few times I've had it it has been out of a fountain soda machine, so maybe not mixed properly. I'm always addicted to mountain dew, though.

BK and Wendy's have the best DP...Taco Bell is the worst. It's very odd that they taste different at all. I prefer 20oz bottles over cans and fountain...
