softness (did a search first)

norbert and aelfric
alright, i'm sure there is topics similar to this one, but i can't locate the threads that contain the information i require soooo....

my yearling snow, norbert has a soft underbelly area from about the cloaca up to an inch from the head. it's a little mushy there, i'm not sure why, maybe it's normal. he eats two fuzzie wuzzies a week and gets a lot of exercise in and out of his enclosure. he had dehydration issues for a while, but that problem was resolved. what could this be a sign of...or am i just worrying because i have nothing better to do?

Sounds like you might be worrying...

Every snake is going to be softer in the belly than the rest of his body...
The ribs support the rest giving a harder feeling...and stronger musculature...
This occurs from the vent to the neck...the tail and neck are solid because of the spine...
The belly will be softer...

When he moves around your fingers/hand...the belly should be taught...but will still be softer than the rest...

If you are extremely concerned...or see any other irregularities...I would take him to the vet...

It is especially hard to diagnose in smaller snakes...bigger ones tend to have stronger belly muscles...

Just my $0.02
