Schrödinger's cat
Hey everyone. Merry Christmas! (Yes I realise that I'm 4 days late, but I've been away lol)

I got a Nikon D40X for Christmas, and I thought I'd christen it by taking some photos of my animals. :)

For the pictures I used the standard 18-55mm kit lens, I'm hoping to get a macro lens next year. Oh and the last photo was taken a while back with my Dad's camera, just to let you know. I had to reduce these to 1/5th of their original size.

Pic 1 - Smudge (my eldest cat)
Pic 2 - Ruby (in a very festive mood)
Pic 3 - Pippin (inebriated)
Pic 4 - Salazar (my first reptile)
Pic 5 - Gilbert

Thanks for looking!

So here they are:

Fantastic choice of camera :) You will have so much fun with a macro lens, but I really like the 18-55mm nikkor... it's rather diverse in it's capabilities and very lightweight. I take it with me everywhere :)

You can actually get in REALLY close with it at 55mm and manual focus.

Thanks Elle! Yeah it is good, but I haven't been out with it so I'm yet to see its true power lol.

I tried to focus on some livefood to see how close I could get on macro setting. I had autofocus on, and that couldn't cut it, so I switched to manual. BIG difference.

I was so frustrated with my camera for the first few weeks. It was my first DSLR and I was terrified of using it manually (buttons and too many options freak me out) but it really does make the world of difference using it completely manually. Well actually I have a preferance for shutter priority (little s button on the wheel) as I have bad lighting sometimes...

More pictures pleaseeee!

Lol, you're right there. However, I can run out of pictures on my PC, and at 2 in the morning my options are limited :)

Thanks Taxidermy, here's some more shots for you all:
