hi I recently had to help my 4 month old corn snake with his shed whilst doing this I hurt the very tip of his tail accidentally, it went a pinkish/red but has now gone a blackish colour, any advice??

Sounds like he will probably loose the tip of his tail. Its not horribly uncommon... you can rub a little polysporin on it to help keep it clean.

will this cause any problems with my snake it is just the very tip i'd say about 1 scale. I feel so bad that I caused this injury in the first place :(

It should not, just keep it clean. Typically loosing the very tip is a minor injury and heals quickly, even without polysporin. (but still its a good idea to use it) It happens sometimes with incomplete sheds that get stuck around the tip and retrict blood flow. I have a 4 year old female that lost the tip of her tail as a hatchling. She has no idea shes any different and its barely noticable.
