Went to Montana to be with my husband's family for a few days and his best friend talked him into taking his neighbor's BP that the neighbor wanted to get rid of.
I just don't get people! We did come home with that BP and he's a bit rough. Guy had him on a mix of sand and gravel! It is supposed to be at least three years old but is about the size of a six month old or yearling. He's a little skinny, for his length but not starved looking or anything. No surprise he's got some stuck shed, somewhat surprising that it looks like only one shed and no retained eye caps. He's getting a sauna at the moment.

Neither of us are big BP fans, so we will probably keep him a few months, make sure he's eating, try to get some weight on him and make sure he's healthy and then try and find him a good home.
 
Been saying "he" but no idea of the gender so far.
Sounded like he was eating fairly well for the guy and that he wasn't being short changed on feeding, so I'm not sure why he's kind of stunted size wise. Do you guys think he will stay really small if we get him eating well and he's otherwise healthy or do you think he will get closer to the usual size for a BP of a similar age eventually?

I'm not super experienced or anything, but last year a teacher I know adopted three boas off craigslist... two of them were red tails supposedly 2-3 years old, but no larger than 3 feet and had loose skin/stuck shed/dehydrated. The old owners were apparently stunting them on purpose because they wanted RTBs without having to deal with the large sizes, and they kept them too cold because they "didn't want the male and female to breed with each other"

Needless to say, they were put on rats and over a year later are MUCH fatter and quite a bit longer. So if that's anything to go buy, I'm sure this BP will bounce right back and start growing again.

He's cute! If you eventually have a lot of trouble finding him a home you can always contact me ;) lol

Got the little one out today for a weigh on an empty stomach and some pictures, the pictures didn't turn out too good though. But he's got all the stuck shed off and came in at 255 grams, an 11 gram gain over the day we got him, fairly decent progress there, so I'm happy about that!

@ xStaticSnow, forgot to mention, thanks for the offer! Might take you up on it later if you still want to. We are fairly often in the Anaconda and Butte area, so could even almost deliver him.
 
Took a new weight and some kind of crummy pictures tonight. He's been fed 7 times since we got him, will be 8 tomorrow and he was 244 grams the day we received him and came in at 311 grams empty tonight, a progress I'm pretty happy with. He finally has a bit of flesh over his bones and I don't feel so hesitant about handling him. I'm sure the feeling was probably an overreaction on my part but I didn't like handling him when we first got him, as I felt he was a little fragile. Here are the pictures.

He is a great eater!! If anything, maybe a little too enthusiastic an eater, as he is a bit cage aggressive, if that's the right way to describe it. More like he goes into hunting mode the second his bin is opened and will strike anything that moves, hoping its a meal, until he's been removed from his cage, when he calms down and goes back to being a fairly typical BP in behavior.
Like I said though, I pretty much haven't been handling him any more than necessary because I didn't like how fragile he felt but I'm going to start handling him more and see if that doesn't calm him down a bit more in the cage. But I guess I'd rather he stays such a good eater and put up with trying not to get bit every time I open his bin!
 
Kuddos to you for saving this animal. It's stories like these that will have me conflicted; I love having my animals but I hate the pet trade. Anyway, major thanks to you for saving him!
 
Thanks for the offer ArmyWife! Might take you up on it. I want to get about another 100 grams or so on him before I'll feel good about sending him on to a new home. There are several BP breeders near me that I know, I'm thinking I will probably have one of them sex him at some point too, before I work on getting him a home.
 
Well, just had a breeder friend who has a probe set stop by and she is 98% sure the BP is a female. Both popped and probed it but didn't want to try too hard, since it's still so skinny.
