Speech!

Bartholomew

Big Brotha Bart
So, my Oral Communications teacher wants the class to do an informative speech, and the first thing that came into my mind was "SNAKES" :grin01: so i was all happy thinking "Im going to say why snakes are so good, and why everyone loves them" but then i stumbled up on "but what should I say?" Any help would be nice. Why are snakes a great pet to keep? What advantages could you get out of them? I know the basics, but anything will help.
Thanks, In Advance.

I tell people they are the perfect pet because they're quiet, they don't shed all over the house (at which point you can use a complete shed to demonstrate how cool it is), they are super low maintenance (talk about feeding, watering, spot cleaning), and I love to point out that any animal that is a top predator with no limbs has to be considered incredible. There are lots more reasons. What are a few of yours?

You acctualy mentioned some of them. Like the one where they are quiet and low matnence. I also think the idea of the snake shed is pretty cool. But you gave me some pretty great ideas. Thanks! Im acctualy in that class right now in school. She wants us to research about our topic. I have to get a whole mess of quotes and bibliography and all that good stuff :boring: . I defenatley wont leave out the 'top predator with no limbs' quote

One reason they interest me is that they are very misunderstood and persecuted for no reason other than ignorance.

They make good pets for busy people who want animal companionship but don't have the time and energy for a social animal like a cat or a dog. You don't have to train a snake or shower it with attention. If you come home too tired to take your snake out one night, the snake is not going to get depressed and whine until 4 in the morning. However, they are usually tame and friendly enough to make good company when you do take them out. Like others have said, they don't make noise or very much mess.

Spending time with animals tends to reduce stress and lower blood pressure. The most stress-relieving pets I have ever kept are my snakes; something about the way they move is very trance-inducing. When I am watching Ariadne I have noticed that the pace of my thoughts slows down as if I were in meditation. I forget many of the negative thoughts I would normally dwell on and focus entirely on her. Holding the snakes is definitely my decompression at the end of the day.

I find my snakes to be more undemanding than my cat: they don't wake me up an hour before my alarm goes off, don't yack hairballs on the floor, etc. For those with pet hair/dandruff allergies, snakes or other reptiles would probably be a good alternative.

I agree with oneirogenesis: I also find that it takes more active attention to hold them (my 2 are always moving) than it does to sit on the couch in front of the tv, zone out and pet the cat. For me, being in the moment holding and interacting with a snake is a great stress relief because it takes all my attention, but it isn't something that I have to devote a block of time to like walking a dog when it's cold outside.

Thanks you guys! I'm going to literally use every reason you posted on here. I just need to research some tiny things and get the bibliography on that. Thanks again! You've been a big help :D
