This is our family's first corn snake. His name is Stan. He's been quite the hit here at the house.

I decided to shoot some photos of his fourth feeding since arriving.

A question for those who know more than I; is the clear patch (cartilage?) in the middle of his head normal? Will he keep it or outgrow it? He's about 17-18 inches long I'm guessing. As you can see, he's still on pinkies.

Hmm it looks like a missing scale?
And from what i have read, snakes have the same amount of scales their whole lives, so i highly doubt, if this is true, that it will grow back.

The skin will probably harden over the years but i think that mark may be permenant.

Thanks, isn't that the frontal scale? A quick search on "missing scales" brought me to a number of threads that mentioned a number of amelanistic with missing scales on the head, so I guess it happens. At least it is symmetrical.
