Star Spangled Banner

The way they sing/rap live bugs me a bit as it always sounds like they're really tired or bored and just aren't hitting those notes, but this isn't about LP. :p

I know all the words, and I stand politely when it is sung or played, and I take off my hat if I am wearing one. But I do not put my hand over my heart and I have pledged not to sing it again until I can really believe in what I am singing--that this is the land of the free. I haven't sung it in at least 10 years, and I will not sing it again until either I have equal marriage rights or no one has any, such that everyone has the same level of freedom on that score. My intention is not to turn this thread into a political one, but I just can't comment at all unless I say what's on my mind, and I wanted to comment.

I didn't see it, but it's possible that she knows the words and got nervous. At my senior voice recital, I completely forgot the words of one of the verses of a song I knew cold and had to just re-sing the first one. It was this weird and sudden moment of complete and utter blankness accompanied by complete and utter panic. Like someone had reaching into my brain and pulled out everything that used to be in there. You wouldn't think that would happen to such a person who makes a living as a performer, but I bet it happens from time to time.

However, she is a singer and thus goes on tour and performs live like this. I don't understand why she'd forget the lyrics. :shrugs:

She had performed it last years finals in NBA without loosing her words for example =P
and dont forget that Roseanne Barr, R Kelly och Carl Lewis have all messed up the words...

I asume all she could think of was "Dont fudge this up!!!" and ofc you will then.

I know and fully acknowledge that I am the guy with 3 lbs of overly patriotic gray matter lumped in a cranium atop my shoulders. But was anyone else as disgusted by the utterly ludicrous mess that was Aguilera's feeble attempt at the National Anthem? How can one get on that big of a stage and not even get the words right? Also I am so done with 'celebs' and 'artists' personal spin on the tempo and inflection to the point of near dissonance! Sing the song as intended! Mini-rant over. :realhot:
Missed this thread and posted in the SuperBowl thread.

Ah. I had no idea. (Don't follow sports.) If she sang it last year, I think you're right that that suggests she knew the words and psyched herself out.

Shenzi--last time I checked, singers weren't infallible, even at singing. There's a lot less pressure when you sing your own stuff than when you sing the national anthem at the superbowl. If you mess up the words to your own stuff, people will giggle, if they even notice. If you do it with the national anthem at the superbowl, a large proportion of 100 million people will become enraged.

You know, Steph, I DVR'd the SB and when I went back to watch her sing, they were also panning over the players etc. I didn't notice ONE of them "notice" her "flub". Perhaps they were only thinking FOOTBALL or because every one of them "flub" up from time to time, they were much more forgiving.

IDK... I think it is a shame she messed up and also "OVER-ADDED" her own "fluff" to the song, but as a person who has made many of my own performance/speech/LIFE errors, I probably am more forgiving than most.

I just had to point out that, even though Rosanne can't sing, and some may say what she did was disrespectful, she got the words right.

This is my thought as well. It's a shame, but crap happens. I'm not going to call her unpatriotic and etc for making a mistake. It's one of those things....don't mess this up, don't mess this up, trying so hard not to mess up that you mess up. I'm not a fan of hers really, but she's only human.

I don't think she is unpatriotic, but her "vocal acrobatics" (LOVE that Robbie!) make my ears bleed.
Listening to that crap actually makes me feel hostile.....

I did not mean to imply she was unpatriotic. More self admitting to being overly patriotic myself. Being such may skew my critique of her performance thus the need to juxtapose opinions of others with mine. After seeing others opinions I can understand the missing words based on the big stage etc. I still however don't care for the artistic alteration/interpretation of a song intended to be performed in a specific manner. I know it's late but really...didn't anyone else think this was just funny as, well, you know, that warm place?

Every time one of these corporate made plastic "entertainers" makes a mistake a part of me laughs...
