Stump and Tequila! My Beardies!

Thank you,Nanci! That's a perfect recipe to try! I thought about using the baby food since he's refusing all cricketts. I'll have to run out a see if I can find some of the jumpstart. And is this normal? Tequila's back is a really bright looking orange today instead of gray! His face and legs are still bright yellow but his back is a totally different color! I knew they can show different colors but I didn't know it could be that drastic!

Sounds like he's happy! Do you have the best light for him? ZooMed Reptisun 10 is the correct one. That is probably just as important for his recovery as a proper diet. It's a fluorescent tube.

And have you tried soaking him? Isabel likes to soak in the bathtub. I use pretty warm water, about 95-100 degrees. She just floats with her eyes closed and I dribble water over her back and pet her.

I had to order Jump Start on line. Petco _might_ have it.

Stump looking LOTS perkier this morning!

Tequila checking out his new digs! Still got a lot more I want to do but for now the basics are done. Rest is just all cosmetic.

I actually have a Mercury Vapor bulb on him. Is that okay or should I switch it? And yes,he got a good soaking yesterday. He actually "ran" around the bathtub swimming for a bit and then promptly fell asleep with his head in the water. I had to pick his head up out of the water and bathe him that way. He seemed to enjoy it until I started cleaning the old shed off of his belly. He didn't like that at all!

MVB is good too. Can you keep it cool enough, about 105? Sometimes if Isabel is really dirty, I scrub her with a kids electric toothbrush. She loves that!

LOL! You have no idea how much I have "studied" your Isabel,do you? We got a little electric toothbrush just for the beardies! LOL!

Originally, the PO had the MV bulb on Tequila's viv and not on Stump's. Then I noticed that the bulb she had on Stump was just a UVA bulb. Not good, right? So I switched 'em and got the Reptisun 10 for Tequila instead. For Stump's temps, it's been a little easier to keep the MV bulb temps lower only because he can't climb right now at all. So the highest point I measure in there is on that little log which is about 6 inches off the ground. He can't even climb up on that. I put him there every morning for a while and then take him down when it's time to eat.

Tequila Is gorgeous.

You seem to be very good at finding herp caretakers that just don't know what they're doing. The lack of UVB could explain alot as to why Stump is so small. I know you said that he has trouble climbing but have you noticed any other oddities about his movements (beside the missing foot of course), UVB Deprivation can cause some pretty bad bone and joint issues.

His right rear leg doesn't work quite as well as his others. He does use it but barely. He'll use it when he does one of his occasional "runs" but if it's just to move from one spot to the other he doesn't really use it. I'm hoping once I can get him eating something I can start working on the rest.

Not that I can tell and he lets me move that leg and he doesn't even wake up. Usually what happens after he moves around really fast is he immediately falls asleep.

It doesn't sound like he has any bad joint issues, which makes ME feel better so I can only imagine that you are relieved. I apologize if I caused any worry. I'm glad to see you saving reptiles in need, I'm positive that the addition of UVB will help him tremendously and I'm glad he will be getting food he can eat.

Oh, you didn't cause any worry! Like I said before,I'm prepared for the worst with him. I'll do anything and everything I can afford to do for him. I just keep reminding myself that after a year,it may be too late and all I can do is make him comfy. In the mean time, though,I'm treating him as if he's fixable. I'll probably bawl my eyes out once I can get him to eat on his own! LOL! Reminds me of when Sebastian was born 10 weeks early and it took him over a month to get off the feeding tube and on to a bottle!

Well, Stump ate some greens all on his own today! That's good right? I chopped it up super fine and sprinkled his vitamins and calcium on them, wet it down a little and he ate about half of it on his own. Hobbled right on over there. I'm picking up the baby food and pedialyte this evening so I can start getting some protein in him since he's still not interested in eating anything but the greens. All in all, a pretty good day for little Stump!

Thanks! I was pretty excited even if it wasn't a protein.

Look! I haz a stump,but I iz pertyz anywayz!

I'm so glad to hear Stump is doing better--and eating greens on his own! That's wonderful!

I hope he decides to accept some insects for you soon... Once he's eating bugs, maybe you should offer him Phoenix worms? I don't have any personal experience with them, but I've heard they work wonders for lizards with MBD. Also, butter worms helped a LOT getting Man Ray's weight back up when we got him (and they're supposed to be high in calcium, too). Both of them are supposed to be great for getting picky feeders going, too...
And now for the shameless plug: Mulberry Farms sells both. I get my silkworms and butter worms from them. =)

We got him to eat some of the baby food mix out of the syringe last night. Boy was he NOT happy! He was happy once he started eating it but not happy with me "forcing" the syringe in. He tolerated about 1/4 of teaspoon last night. I'm going to see if I can get him to take a full teaspoon throughout the day. They both got a little bit of diced up cactus in their greens this morning so we'll see how they like that.

Great to hear he took some of that formula for you... Even if he was mad at you! Lol!

Cactus pad is great. My guy isn't a big fan of it (he LOVES his leafy greens, especially collards, but gooey tough things seriously put him off unless they're wiggling), but it's a great staple green nutrition-wise (again, by what I've read). =)
