substrate/feeding issues?

Hey all, I have a 2yr old male Corn who has just shed on Monday - he gets fed every sunday and didn't eat the day before he shed, or the week before either. I offered him a mouse last night and he never took it - I'm just a little concerned.

The only thing I have changed is his substrate; he usually had wood chippings, but i changed it to aspen wood shavings, I just wondered if this would make much difference as last time I tried him on different substrate he stopped eating aswell? Temperatures etc, in his tank are the same as always and as they should be? Should I be concerned?

Personally, I don't see why changing the substrate, especially from one wood form to another, would have any effect on a corn eating as they should be used to being fed in their usual separate container with no substrate or just lined with paper towels/newspaper. At your snake's age and the time of year, I would be more apt to say it's sexual maturity and breeding instincts causing your snake to not eat at the moment, especially if it is a male. Also, occasionally, I've had a snake refuse more than one meal around the time they shed, before and after. I suggest that you wait until next Sunday and try feeding again.

thanks susan: he does get fed in a different container - (I'm paranoid about him ingesting substrate) - I never gave any thought to the whole sexual maturity thing he may have going on. I'll hang off and try him again next Sunday and see how it goes. He has went on little hunger strikes before when he's shedding/after shedding, so it's not something I'm overly concerned about, was just worried if I was being too complacent about it. Other than that, he seems as happy as ever :)
