Smile, you are alive!!
soooo, I fed Melman 4 days ago (gave him 2 pinkies for the first time). Usually he defecates 2 days after eating but I figured with the 2 pinkies, it may take longer to digest. So I took him out today and he looked a little swollen and I got worried so I decided to give him a warm bath (figured it couldn't hurt either way) and he still didn't defecate.

Does him being swollen sound like he's just constipated? or could there be something seriously wrong?

Also, when I was giving him the bath, first I was holding his head up above the water and then he slowly pulled out of the way and put his head under water for a couple of seconds before I got scared and pulled his head up. He did this twice. Do your snakes put their full heads under water? Do they know to stop breathing when their heads are under water? could my snake have inhaled water?

Thank you so much in advance for responses.

Here are some pictures of him right now: You can click on them to enlarge 'em.

and here's where it's more obvious, near the tail (although he's pretty evenly swollen, it seems)

They can go under water for a LONG time. The last time my baby Jasmine had a drink, she took 110 swallows, underwater!

I think the "swelling" will resolve itself shortly!

Anytime I give ANY of my snakes a bath, they pull their heads under water. That includes my boas. I even have a snake that soaks regularly and swims in his waterbowl with his head underwater. I wouldn't worry about the swimming. As far as the lump, it looks pretty normal to me. Most of my corns get that lump by the tail about a day or so before they're getting ready to defecate.

Yes, I agree, the lump should go away. Looks like he/she will be having a big mess for you to clean up.. Lol

haha great! that takes away some of my worry. thanks everyone for responding so quickly!
