Tagged!

Bobo's Mama

proud corn mommy!
Well, its official! I've finally been tagged. It was just the cutest thing though. I was changing water, checking for poops, stuff like that. I was trying not to bother my new little guy too much because he just ate for the first time with me on Wednesday. Anyway, I moved the hide he was under so that I could get to the water easier and I heard this little buzzing noise. I knew he was rattling his tail at me. Its so adorable. Its like he thinks he's a big old dragon or something. So I just ignored him, but when I went to put the fresh water dish down, he struck at my hand and tagged me. He didn't hold on, but I definitely felt his itty-bitty little teeth. It felt like the scratchy side of Velcro. It was mostly just really cute. My amel, which I still haven't found yet:cry: , never even attempted to bite me. When I first got her she struck at me with a closed mouth, more like a headbutt, but she never did anything like this little guy. He's feisty, but then again, I guess most hatchlings are. I just wanted to share that with everyone.

Aren't they adorable when they're tough? I had my new baby snow try four or five times in a row, with teeth, to bite me. I just laughed at her.

Being bit is something I am kinda like :awcrap: Does it hurt when they bite.. Has it ever drown blood. How do you keep from being startled and not yanking back?

There are two groups of keepers; those that have been tagged, and those that will be

The little guys are usually unnoticeable when they bite but the strike always seems to catch you by surprise.

Now the big ones, especially large colubrids and boids, are an entirely different story.......... :eek1:

Does it hurt... not really. Drawn blood... a little. They are quick, so when they bite, it will usually be over before you yank back. Hatchlings are crazy sometimes. One of my rootbeer hatchlings held on for about 30 seconds once and all I could do was laugh. It happened in a local petstore while I was learning how to sex them. The owner and I were laughing at the little thing that seemed like it was trying to kill me, while a bunch of customers were freaking out. "oh my God, are you ok?" The only thing I don't like is the itch. Drives ya crazy.

It is startling, but its less painful than a cat scratch or a papercut. A few of mine are a bit snappy sometimes, so I put on gloves and go about my business with them.

It was fun showing off the perfect set of teeth marks to my co-workers. Tiny red dots in a perfect shape of a snake's mouth.

Here is a pic of my Tangerine Hondo doing what he does best. He must get me at least 6 times if not more when I do anything with him... He is a real pistol, but funny. When I go this shot...he was lunging at the camera, mouth wide open. I wish I could have gotten that pic..:) I just hope he calms down as he gets older. I sure don't want a 4-5 foot hondo, coming at me with mouth wide open...lol...;-)

Some of my corns are the same way...but maybe not quite as bad...they usually stop trying to bite after one or two times. Like previously said, it really doesn't hurt, and doesn't make too much blood.

I jump every time I get tagged. I don't mean to, but it really surprizes the living crap out of me. LOL! I've been tagged about a dozen times, and only once have the snakes drawn blood. Let's see... first there was my female breeder when she was eating hoppers, and then I got tagged by three hatchlings last year and I keep getting tagged by the same three or four this year. Good thing all of those are really good feeders. LMAO!!!!

What is it about tangerine hondurans, anyway? Both of my males bite me, too, but instead of a defensive strike like corns (who bite quickly and then let go), these two bite, hold on and gnaw, like they're trying to eat my hand. It's not so bad with my 20" yearling, but my 5'6" male really leaves marks!

You're right they do grind those teeth in. Kind of funny as babies, (unless they grab a sensitive part) but like you said...a full grown adult...OUCH!!!! I hope this little guy eventually decides to stop. :)

Hi

I believe that of all the milksnakes, the Honduran is said to be the most flighty and high-strung. But in my opinion they are also the most BEAUTIFUL of the milks. :)

This little guy is just incredible. I thought I would add some stuff here instead of making a new thread. Tonight he rattled his tail at me when I went to get him out to handle. Once I had him out, he pooped on me, it got on my hand, on my jeans and on the floor:puke01: . Then after I had washed my hand off and cleaned up the floor, I almost dropped him and grabbed him rather tightly and scared him and he musked me. It smells strong. Not bad, just strong. At least that's my opinion. :shrugs: So all in a weeks time, because tomorrow will be the one week anniversary of when I got him, all this has happened

fed first time
tail rattle
bit me
pooped on me
musked me
pooped on climbing tree

Its all so amazing to me because my amel never did any of those things, so except for the feeding, all those things are new to me. It feels like :santa: and he's the present I just don't want to stop playing with. Can you tell I really love my new snake?!!?

Its when a snake lets out an oil from its butt that stinks!:grin01: I don't know what its made of, but I assume its an oil, anyway, they do it when they're scared or really mad.

I know how heartbroken you were to have Bobo go missing. It's great to see you are having so much fun with the new little one. :)

I got bit today by one of my 01 female Okeetees. We had some friends over and I was showing them some of the snakes in our collection. I was talking to one of our friends, when all of a sudden I felt something "scratchy" right around the base of my finger. I looked down and my female okeetee had her mouth latched on at the base of my finger ! She just kept knawing on it , I guess my finger must have resembled a lg pinkie.

I gently pulled her off, and put her back in the cage. In my 10 years of keeping snakes, I've never been bit by adults like this. The teeth made little pin pricks, and some blood came out. Not too much though. I put some peroxide on it and went on. First time for everything.
