I'm getting 4 females and one has a litter already. How many should I take out if its a litter of 10 to freeze ? What's the most possible I can take?

Ok there's actually two diff small litters. There's 3 with full fur but eyes closed and one of those gotten eaten after my friend touched it . And then there's a few small ones that have their eyes are open and they run around so can I take those out?

Just my .02 but taking them all can cause mastitis, if they are from two moms I would leave a couple with each. When I had big colonies 1:4, I always left a couple with each mom. Prevents kidnapping, mastitis... It will also benefit mom (taking some babies) as she will likely be bred already so doesn't take as much out of her having all those babies.

this is dirtymax's girlfriend lol im the worry wart here not him lol but heres the picture of the older babies, thats a piece of the mouse food next to it but those three are all runnning around with eyes open. I think they would be considered hoppers Im just worried because i was underthe impression you could touch babies and they wouldnt get eaten and one already did. Also non of the females look like they are lactating or anything

sorry for the horrible picture but im pretty sure you can make out the size atleast

and also i didnt want to take all because i know they need some left or they will start eating them but im not taking any now...

ive noticed some of the babies are starting to jump around now so should take all the older babies out? also how long does it take them to grow hair?

Yes hold the mice by the scruff of the neck, like a cat, look at the mouth if you see both upper and lower teeth they need to be weaned off mom. Usually mom will have another litter soon, sometimes the weanling size will still nurse and cause pinkies to die for lack of milk. If mom doesnt look like she is going to pop it would be okay to leave them in a little longer. I also look for the ears to pop up along with the teeth. Usally pinkies start fuzzing up 7-10 days after they are born... It varies with which kind of mice, fancy or swiss ,long hair or short..ect....

well one of the babies of the older litter nibbled me and ive noticed them popcorning so i assume that means they are ready?
lol

If I mark the tails with a permanent marker would it bother them? Like one mark for girl.and none for boy? Or does someone have better ways?

I don't pay attention to genders unless I am pulling to process for future feeding or if I am seperating weaned pups. Boys go to their own cage at 3-4 weeks, girls I plan to breed stay with mum until paired off, or I keep them in a colony seperate from any males until the size I need to feed. I wean at 3-4 weeks as I had a mom with just herself and she had pups when they were 5 weeks I seperated and about 3 weeks later there was another litter. Whoops!
