I recently acquired a corn snake that is not used to being handled. It came from a rescue and I really don't know its history except that the previous owner did not want it. The snake rattles its tail when opening the tank and will sometimes musk, but will let me hold it for several minutes at a time without getting too flighty (or musking me). The snake is around 4 or 5 years old, so I guess what I am wondering is should I expect his behavior to change dramatically with more frequent handling, and if so, how long would it take? It has not struck at me...yet. Though it also didn't go for my frozen/thawed mouse until I dangled it with tongs..which makes me a little nervous. My first corn snake always ate without having to dangle the mouse, and would actually shy away until I got my hand/tongs out of the tank. My first corn will also always wrap herself around me when I handle it, where as the new snake will allow me to hold it, but refrains from wrapping itself around me and will eventually just try to fling itself out of my hand.
Any thoughts/experiance is appreciated. Thanks!
