Tank Heater

Lighting

New member
When I got my snake this week I set up a glass tank with a heater pad but everything on the packaging had me super worried about putting it under the tank (warping of furniture underneath and even worse, burns on the snake!) I decided to stick it on the bottom of one side of the tank because the snake seems to burrow under the aspen to the bottom right against the glass floor and I'm worried it can get too hot. Now I'm thinking I should indeed put it underneath because it's a small heating mat...and maybe the snake would like that more....argh I don't even know if I can re-stick the thing effectively?

Any advice?

They put that warning because it's not expected that you'll use a thermostat with it, which you should for a corn snake.

On its own, the UTH gets too hot for the snake. You need a thermostat to turn it on and off and keep the temps where it should be for the snake (around 82-85 degrees).

The snake can't use it on the side of the tank, they have to lie on it, just not if it's too hot.

Boo I was afraid of that. I just did a quick google search of thermostats that i can plug the heater into but I'm not sure what to look for...what's good and all...any suggestions? What kind do you use and what sort of price range am I looking at in getting one? A quick look and I see ones from 15-60 bucks like whoa what a range

If you've just got the one snake, THIS is a good thermostat for you. I use it, and I know several others do. It's a good price, does a good job, and is easy to use.

I use the thermostat Amanda linked, and it's always performed perfectly. I also use a second probe thermometer in case Shady ever bumps one of the two probes off of her UTH, that way I know if it's getting too hot.
