taxidermy

An animal taken for food makes a wonderful trophy of mankind's abilities; an animal taken as a trinket makes a statement of mankind's brutality. ;)

products made from reptiles are a no no in the hobby. THe reason why . lets say you had a pet snake that died and you got it stuffed . Some people might thing it is cool and want one to but not want alive one so they my kill a snake to have it stuffed. or pay some else to kill a snake and stuff it. not so bad if it is one snake. now what if sets off a trend or fad it cost too much money raise a snake in captiveity so they go into the wild and kill any snake they can to stuff it some may be endanger or threatern or become this way from these actions this is the problem with the rattlesnake round up's accorss the country. too many reasons to list why I hate to write and cant spell very well so caii me at home I live in the bronx pelham bay give me a call I been breding snakes since 1985 maybe I can help you or if you just fell like talking shop 1718 792 2593

I thought I would be seen as a bit sick and gross when I suggested to a friend that when my gorgeous amel passes on I'd like to have a memento of her in the form of a watch strap...She thought it was a brilliant idea..so I was less shy and told a few more people and the majority think it's a (albeit very different and a little odd) nice way to immortalise a beloved pet...and I'll have a great story to tell people when I get compliments on my watch. I've actually had a few other people ask if they could have a spare scrap when I'm doing that to make their own watch strap...Don't know how I'd feel about that.

I've seen cowboy boots made of diamondback rattlers hides and although there's plenty of them out there and plenty of people have the boots...killing the snake just to make the boots is not what I'm a fan of. I hope I don't sound hypocritical when I say this as I'm a leather belt and shoe wearing, rabbit-fur lined gloves, non-vegetarian type...but I don't like the idea of killing snakes for fashion...but that's just the way it is!

I agree with Cav and Princess

I've been a hunter all my life, so I'll be the first to admit that I love leather and fur, and use them in a plethora of things, from clothes to decorating to tack for my horses. But everything that I have killed has been enjoyed as a meal at my table as well. I don't see anything wrong in using everything available, as long as it's inital purpose was for food.

However, I cannot justify killing something just because it would look good on my shelf. I think their is a difference between killing something just to kill it, or just because it would fancy up a pair of shoes and killing for food.

Just my .02 :)

Yeah I agree, while taxidermy is interesting and can be a valuable teaching tool for museums and whatnot, it's kind of hard to justify killing an animal simply because it would look good stuffed. I used to have a rattlesnake that I stuffed, he was a pancake in the road when I found him. Personally I would never buy one since most of them are killed in the hideous roundups.

One of my friends had a barred owl stuffed after it died of old age in their barn, the local paper even ran an obituary for it. They also have a stuffed badger that they found as roadkill.

Personally I have no problem with farm raised reptiles being used to supply the reptile leather market. Especially gator farms and such. It tends to take the demand off wild populations since people are going to buy that stuff no matter what. Gators are mighty tasty too. :licklips:

well me being a huge animal lover all round, have been a vegetarian for 12 years now, never wear fur at all, only wear fake leather, never real. i dont judge others for doing so though, what they wear is up to them, obviously but i personally wouldnt be seen dead in a dead animal.
just my thought
:D
