Today we came home a little late from lunch with a friend. Drey was supposed to meet a friend of his at our house and they were going to tinker with cars and guns the rest of the afternoon. Well he was already here and playing with his new toy while he waited : a remote control car he had built.
There's gotta be something wrong with me because the first thought I had was, "We gotta try this on the horses!" But first I had to walk the dog. So Jason buzzed it past Spirit, my greyhound and instead of being scared, he was curious, fascinated even. So he buzzed it past him a few more times and Spirit actually got rather animated. He wanted to chase it or pounce on it every time it passed! ( This from the dog who doesn't know how to play, just lie on the couch and sleep! ) We had him so wound up from it he was actually barking at it! I wish I could have taken him off lead but the last time I did that, he didn't come back! I had to get a neighbor to catch him because he wouldn't let me catch him.
So next we had to try it on the horses. We fed them, turned them out and gave them a few moments on the hay bale before we sent the metal "cockroach" out to torment them. First there was an explosion of horses going "What's that??!!!" And then curiousity. They actually approached it and started chasing it! It was short lived though. Pretty soon they were like, "Yeah, its a bug that just buzzes and doesn't bite." and they were ignoring it or shaking their heads and stomping at it. I got a pretty funny video of it but I can't post it from my computer and the library won't let me do stuff like that.
I'm just glad my horses are Haflingers and not Thoroughbreds or Arabs. I think they would have been through the fence! But next time I need a good expression for the camera, I need to borrow my friend with the car!
