Temps

Well then, I noticed inside of my cage that the temperatures were well above the suggested 80-85 for the basking area. The temp. inside the aquarium is now at 90 and the lowest point was 89 over about an hour... i have two fans working in the room (not pointed at the aquarium at all) but still the temps are steady 90 is that ok for a corn snake?

No, it's too high. You need a thermostat or rheostat to keep the UTh under control.

Sorry, missed the other thread reply about the rheostat. If that's as low as it will go, then you need a better one. =) Is it a ZooMed rheostat? they are notorious for not dialing down low enough. Their thermostat is good, but the rheostat not so much.

If it's the room temp causing it, then turn up the AC or just wait it out and make sure the mat is turned off completely.

no i think you guys misunderstood, I have turned the UTH off for a while now as it was WAY hotter than 90... the room which the snake is IN is 90 steady and i can't lower it at all. any suggestions?

I guess AC isn't an option, but is there a cooler room, maybe a basement you could move it to temporarily?

If not, just get it well ventilated and if it gets really hot you could try putting a frozen plastic bottle of water in the viv to help cool it.

How can someone stand to live in a room that's 90 degrees? Blagh.

I keep my living room so cold, you could hang sides of beef in it! 90 degrees,I'd be dead in a week!

i really don't know :p the heat doesn't bother me too much unless it's like peeak of the day which i'm not in my room... :p
but yeah for now i've added an extra fan trying to bring down the temperature. so far it's still steady 90 going down to about 88 but it's night time so it SHOULD cool down and hopefully the room doesn't re-heat tomorrow cause i'll close blinds etc.
and it sucks because i'm going to be getting it all set up for the summer and winter is comming up and here in canada it gets to be PRETTY DAMN COLD hah

Our new Okeetee is in a Sterilite container on a table that gets direct sun for about half an hour in the late afternoon, sending the temps up into the high 80s. I've been setting an ice pack on top of the tub during that time and it brings the temps down below 85 pretty quickly. Yes, I know I could just move the tub but I wanted to see if this works and it does.

i could see this working for a small container but i don't have any right now the snake is just in it's aquarium. hmph.
