20th of December "as far as i remember" being a member here, well its been such a long journey, and i know i thank you sometimes but I REALLY want to thank you, at first, i was aggressive, i was rude, and i was a pain, I think over the time, I'm still a pain but the aggression and the rudeness has gone, i Have met Some more then amazing people on this forum, And i have Damien's life to thank to you guys, because i don't think, if i did not have this forum, I don't think Damien would be alive right now, I have learnt SO much and Ive developed a Real taking to Reptiles, I feel SO proud to be a member here, and there were people who at first were head to head with me and now we talk well!! i know at first me and Snakemom didn't see eye to eye, and now i see, it was me, she is the mature lady who is Great to talk to :) And then theres others like Roy,who we have always "talked" at first i think, i got on his nerves though, and NANCI who has been by my side from the start, I'm just SO blessed and I'm sorry if i did not mention you but your all great : )

George, your enthusiasm for this site is excellent, but I think I speak for a few people, in that you create many unnecessary threads. If you feel the need to thank people or tell Dean his hands are gorgeous, please do so through private message, thats what the system is there for.

Well, to clarify, he's mentioned my nails in threads. He and I aren't exchanging private messages of any sort regarding my nails. I'm getting bored with only banning spammers. Maybe some examples need to be made to drive home the differences between acceptable and unacceptable discussion topics.

This is in no way directed at you, Chris. You just reminded me that this place isn't supposed to weird people out-- myself included. In fact, I consider it part of my responsibilty to make sure that this doesn't happen.

I think if he meant to ban you, he would have. There are just some lines that are creepy to cross- and talking about wanting to bite Dean's fingernails is one of them. It might have seemed like a funny thing to say, and I'm sure you don't _really_ want to, but it's actually more creepy than funny, and when you start to get uncomfortably creepy, you're over the line.

And I think you should just drop the subject now and never mention it again, because bringing up something that was already locked is like when you got banned and came back with another name. Just drop it- don't do any more damage. It's ok- just leave it!

Why not? Because I think you're smart enough to heed the warnings. The interesting thing (imho) about communities like this is that we develop these bonds with people we really don't know at all. Some of these bonds are surprisingly close. The socially mature members realize the nature of these bonds, and they interact accordingly. Others get confused, and they take these bonds for granted as they might with a cousin, or the neighbor kid who's always hanging around. To make a long story short, they confuse the boundaries that exist between themselves and those who are truly close to them with the ones that must be maintained between casual acquaintances.

I'm not angry or offended by the nail-biting stuff-- just a little disturbed. Other members' reactions seem to indicate that you probably took it too far. Like I said in your "stories" thread, an author has to consider his audience. This includes authors of posts on public discussion boards as well. It may be a sad reality, but we may not be the right people to divulge your every thought to. I know all about you; there isn't much you haven't divulged. What do you know about me? Why haven't I been as open to our fellow cs.com members as you have? Maybe our common interest in corn snakes doesn't really qualify us to be the receivers of each others' secrets?

Bah, I'm getting too serious here. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say here...

But i agree with you, and i will sure tone it down abit : P if your lucky i might try and be normal : )

That's profound. What makes some people "divulgers" and some people more guarded? I'm the worst kind of divulger at work and with people I know IRL. Ask me a question, you'd better be sure you want the answer. But in a medium that stays in print possibly forever, that the entire world has access to, perhaps not in context- I try to practice restraint.

And if you still haven't gotten it, let me put it bluntly. There are people that monitor forums, chat rooms, etc looking for under-age boys and girls. You are under-age. The police and similar agencies also monitor the internet. If the law thinks that your comments to/about Dean just aren't right and that Dean may be one of those bad people because of your comments, he could end up in jail. Is it clear now?

And even worse...a CS.com member may actually be one of those bad types and is very interested in all the personal information you have been providing. Hate to scare you, but I have children of my own and they are not allowed to give out ANY information in the internet, not even their real names. It's bad enough I've done so.
 
Yea I get that, But Tbh, I REALLY dont see what the fuss is about with "People" I'm a nice person, and i do believe in lots of "differen things" then a normal person, Okay so the "Roys fingernails" thread was a little "over the top" but i keep getting comments on my threads about my "comments" and the things i talk about, I'm Strange ill Openly say that, And i'm a part of this community, it all comes down to the "surrounded thing" I dis-like it, as many know i can be a Great person when i want to be, and when i make a thread in the "public chat" its because generally its got nothing to do with corns, There are people out there that may take Pleasure in know details about me, but Thats life, i want to share myself with you guys, i want to Show you "my stories" the way "I like to live my life" and yea sure, i understand some of you may find it "desturbing" but even on my stories there were people who liked them.. : )

This is not me arguing back, this is me listening, and putting my point across, i really dont want my "old rep" back because ive changed alot since then, just thought i would give my point over : )
 
Nobody wants you to change, George. But there are lines that shouldn't be crossed. I didn't read the stories, because after I read the first one, I wasn't interested. I don't want to sound mean, but it isn't my taste. The "Roy's Finernails" thing is creepy. No 2 ways around it, it is inappropriate here...even though it is the general chit-chat forum...it just doesn't belong here. I'll admit that I have probably said things as well that could be deemed "inappropriate", as well...most of us have at one time or another.

So nobody wants you to change, or pretend to be someone or something that you're not. But you need to learn where the lines should be drawn... :shrugs:
 
I agree with what everyone has been saying. I have to say although it is entertaining reading your threads that is only because I know there is going to be some sort of controversy near the end of them. I like to live by the saying that "if you don't have anything meaningful to say, then don't say anything". Not that every post has to be golden, just have some logical thinking behind it. However having said this I have to also compliment you George on how well you have been doing, until recently. ;)

Am I missing something? Maybe it's just my sense of humour but I thought the 'nail nibbling' was surreal and funny. It was no more likely to offend than the 'how you doin'?' comments that are posted here by many of us on the members' photo threads IMO

I thought that the original thread was somewhat amusing, and I even contributed to the humor. But then I see the "nails" theme intruding in ANOTHER thread (this one). In my opinion, things started going too far. I think this was the quote that made me decide that this discussion wasn't appropriate:

People could get the wrong idea about this quote. George, and others, have mentioned my nails in threads. But it's not clear from this quote where George and I have discussed this. I think Susan made some great points about this. "How you doin'?" is playful harrassment, and its meaning and intent are fairly clear. A 23 year-old man hitting on a 21 year-old woman is a whole different thing than a 36 year-old man and a 14 year-old BOY discussing the boy's infatuation with parts of the man's anatomy. I'm sure you can see the difference, Janine. You may think that it's no big deal for the relationship (even a purely electronic one) between a man and a boy to be ambiguous, but when that man is me, it's a big deal...

Also, you should keep in mind that the sensibilities of Brits and those of Americans are not the same. The Puritan mentality still pervades our culture, and I'm a product of that culture. I'm a pretty liberal guy, and despite being straight, I have zero hang-ups about gay culture. But does George know this? Susan made some good points about George's safety too. There are two very bad consequences that could result from George being too open and playful with the wrong people:

1. He could be targeted by a sexual predator. The internet and the world at large are full of them.

2. He could be targeted by a homophobic psychopath. There's no shortage of them in the world either. In some places, a gay guy winking at a straight guy could earn him a death-ride chained behind a pickup truck.

It doesn't seem like people in George's "real" life are teaching him much about what is or isn't socially acceptable. I'm not going to assume this general responsibility, but when his breaches of acceptable behavior involve me, I'm very likely to take corrective action.
