Well as requested here's the full set of building the big cage. Full dimensions are 12ftx6ftx6ft. It took about 7 days to complete from start to finish...pretty much built like a room inside a room, 2x4 studs 5/16" and 1/2" pliewood. So with that we'll get started:

Started off by building a Floor over the existing floor...LOL

The front frame was again built with 2x4s, as this was to house one of the true giants security and stability were paramount:

The rest kind of got skipped over; but basically the whole thing was painted with non-toxic latex paint and clearcoated, and silconed. Doors where put in place (locking).

So there ya go!

The Logs in the cage are about 8 to 10" in diameter and range from 8 to 12ft in length. They are black walnut that has had the bark stripped and dried then coated with poly crylic. There is also a Rainmaker system hooked up that can be set on a timer to mist the entire cage through a PVC sprayer system hidden along the cieling of the cage.

Very nice work, you make the frame look pretty easy, though it's probably deceiving.. I would imagine if I was building something like this for the birds, I could do the same for the frame then use something like hardware cloth in between frames to cover the pointy bits.

Think I'll do that when the roommate moves and I have a bird/snake room.. Thanks for posting this!

Actually it's not decieving at all....basically you just square everything up and screw it straight to the floor of the cage, I built each wall individually then screwed it to the floor, then tied the walls together once they were all up screwing each frame into one another.

I just love it! What room of your house do you have it in?

I just showed the photos to Jerry. He gave me "the look" and went in the kitchen to make a cocktail. I think he's on the phone right now, calling the men in the white coats.

But really, do you keep all these animals in your home, or do you have a separate building you use? I'd love to have that kind of space!

I am sure his wife will place him on loan. He could help build you Big Jake's next cage.. wait, would this be big enough? lol
 
SO cool. I applaud you sir, that is an astounding cage. Could you have a happier (or more beautiful) girl living in there? I think not.

My wife and I bought a Duplex, of which I took over the ENTIRE 2nd floor for the snakes and reptiles...LOL So it's seperate from the main floor dowstairs but still just a jont upstairs. On the plus side the upstairs is also on it's own heating and cooling system which allows me to control the temperatures better.

Wow! Thanks for the timely response to my request! I think it's just amazing that people are able to do things like this, I applaud you. I just get overwhelmed when working in a 3D atmosphere, although I'd really like to try a project like this (perhaps smaller) some day.
I have it in my blood, my father is VERY handy. He's always got a project going on, he even built me a loft bed with a desk underneath it when I lived in a dorm room. I suppose I just gotta wait for this ability (and funds, ouch) to kick in.

I think the best part is you really look like you LOVE doing it. I like seeing your happy face in the pictures where you're included. The snake looks happy too! :laugh:

Yeah this cage cost about $1,200.00 finished...though I probably could've knocked some off without the misting system, huge heat mat, or digital thermometers ect. But hey what fun is that! LOL

I do....it's way beyond obsession for me, I literally eat, breath, and sleep snakes...LOL
