This needs to be shared

That was amazing! I cant believe hes 19! I had to share this on FB. He definitely got his message across. Wow.

Impressive yes... but some people need to think of religious views too. I know there's alot of religions that are trying to change the world etc... like whoever is trying to kill Christmas... the idea and the word Christmas, they want to replace it with Happy Holidays or the short form Xmas... I myself believe in my religion and won't try to force it upon someone who clearly doesn't want a part of it. So why make laws against something... Keep politics out of stupid things, such as religion, same sex marriage, etc...
It's marriage PERIOD!
I am against same sex marriage, but I'm not gunna force a law against it, like come on, there's peoples rights, what the hell happened to our freedom anyway?

I'm against changing the definition of marriage from one man/one woman to other things, but I would support either leaving this as a states' rights issue, or removing the gov't from marriage all together. Then just find a priest or whatever willing to marry you, and be done with it. *shrug* Only problem with leaving the states to decide is that some people won't be satisfied with their state accepting their choice; they'll want to force all the states to adhere to their choice. THAT I don't support. Defeats the purpose of having us separated into states, I think.

Just as an FYI. X literally means Christ. It comes from the greek word Χριστος (Greek for "Christ") so Xmas is actually a literal translation of Christmas. So saying that x is taking jesus out of the holiday is just bull preached by ignorant people ...probably the same ones who like to ignore the fact that christmas was actually a pagen holiday first.

So here is my question to all.

Why should my ability to marry be affected by someone else's religion?

Marriage is a civil contract. End of discussion.

With it are granted many, many legal rights that ALL citizens deserve to have access to. Civil marriage should be between two people. Gender should not matter.

Religions can feel free to discriminate against whoever they want, and call marriage whatever they want. Or not.

But either the government, both state and federal, grants all committed couples the right to enter into a legal contract stating their committment, with all the benefits inherent in it, or they grant no one the right to legally enter into said contract with the rights inherent in it.

I will be sharing this link on my FB as well. His speech brought me to tears. I can't imagine anyone trying to argue against this.

Excellent speech.... I'm sure he'll go far in life!! :) :)

I think it's a matter of time before it's legalized...just like all the other oppressions in the US's history. It's too bad the United States have to go through all of this first though.

Brought tears to my eyes.

You know, I was all for "civil unions", and let the "religious" pharisees have their word "marriage",...until Cynthia Nixon (from Sex And The City) explained it pretty succinctly in common language on TV for me. This was a more than small epiphany for me.
"Civil unions" are minus most of the rights and assurances that "marriage" covers legally, including inheritance laws, medical and health insurance, hospital visitation, and many other (universal, logic would dictate one would think) human rights,...that are otherwise withheld/denied in the non sequitur "equality before the law" as it exists today.........in this country founded by early settlers fleeing religious dogma and looking to find the freedom to practice their faiths freely and unfettered by archaic ways of thinking.[/irony font]

Thank you for posting that, Lauren. I watched it yesterday, and I think everyone should see it, regardless of their orientation. I hope it changes peoples' minds to gay marriage. It should be legal, and there is no reason that the GLBT community shouldn't have the same rights that everyone else does. Especially in this day and age.

Since we're on the subject, I don't believe this has been posted here. I found it on Twitter, and I thought it would be great for people here to read it.

That was an excellent letter, Suzy. I'm confused by some of the twits in the comments section though, complaining that she is "patting herself on the back." I didn't get that at all-- I got a young woman writing to someone she used to know very well back home, telling what she's been up to since she left, and then saying "Oh, and by the way, the girl you used to really love, who used to babysit your kids, she's gay, and you're trying to make her a second class citizen."

A personal appeal to someone she knew.

I'm so glad you posted this. My husband showed it to me late last night and I was blown away by this young man. He is truly a treasure and I am sure that he is a great source of "naches" (a Yiddish word that sort of translates to joy and pride) to his moms. He gets his point across perfectly and he is so likable, what a perfect spokesman!

Thank YOU for bringing it to my attention! I enjoyed it greatly!

I shared it on my facebook too. I almost want my fiance's super anti-anything-that-doesn't-agree-with-Christianity grandmother to comment on it lol

Thanks for sharing!
I hope one day that I will be able to share in the right of legal marriage.

I would be terrified to have a child with the laws what they are right now concerning marriage. Thankfully all we have is our cat and the snakes!
