Hi All,

My corn snake is nearly 1 years old at the end of October. He is approx 2 foot long or just slightly under. He seem's to be growing at a pretty rapid speed just laterly so i just wondered, when is it advisable to buy him a bigger tank?

At the moment, i have him in a glass starter tank which i got as a starter pack when i brought him (sorry i don't know the measurments of the tank). The guy at the reptile shop told me that i shouldn't need to buy Flick a new tank for atleast 2-3 years as snakes like to be in smaller tanks as they fill more secure.. just wondered if this is correct? I don't want to go buy him a bigger tank and freak him out.

As i mentioned, Flick is alittle under 2 foot long at the moment and the tank is shortly than that in length, so he wouldn't be able to stretch out along the length of the tank (althought i know snakes don't really 'stretch out' much) but atleast that gives you an approx. indication of the tank size.

Can anyone help and advise me?

Hey Laura,

My corn is in a 16inch long tank and she is around 2 foot but I have a new tank all setup ready for her which is 36x18x19 so should be moving her this week or next as soon as she has shed.

As long as you have a lot of hides and stuff the snake will be fine, I think your corn will prefer the extra room. :)

I agree..if you can afford to move into a larger tank like 20 or 30 g Long tank that would be nice:) It will give your snake room for several hides and space to move back and forth. They dont need a ton of room but it is nice to change it up a bit. The hides will help him feel secure in his new surroundings..Good Luck:)

thanks for the advice. I'm going to go out this weekend and buy him a bigger tank and some new hides then!

Thanks
Laura
