Ok, this snake was not planned but the poor snake broke my heart..

So today I was at work (I work in a local petstore), all of a sudden I see a random cage planted on the ferret cage, with a reptile light on.. I got very curious..

So I look in and this gorgeous corn snake is in there, I call out the Ronny Animal care manager asking if she knows there's a random snake in the store.. she goes yeah owners are signing him over right now..

Im like great, and pick the snake up, so sweet, he (they guessed hes not sexed), curled up around my arm, checking me out, a little shy, which I can understand..

Im walking around with him, they are doing paper work and I'm checking snake out.. a couple of kids wants to pet and I let them explaining about corns etc.. then Im standing at the register, and the husband of the family walks by, the snake perked up and tried to cruise over to daddy.. and he just walked on telling me he is the best snake, never stricken or hissed.. But it broke my heart to see the poor snake trying to get to the smell he associate with safe and they left him there.. so of course me with a bleeding heart said: I will take him home, I have space.. and the mother looks at me and goes: I am glad you are saying that cause you helped us pick him out 3 years ago but sorry to say the kids are tired of him but he is an absolute sweet heart.. (the snake was in a 10 gallon tank with a heat light on and one hide.. ) bare minimum.. snake is about 3 years old and maybe 3 feet, not sure.. but healthy, in good girth but I suspect its more fat than muscle as I don't see as much tone.

Here are pictures and I have no clue what he is but he's healthy and pretty.. I couldn't help myself.. there is not a black speck on him... so Im guessing hypo, maybe even amel of some sort, lots of white and yellow...

And I don't know gender and another snake that doesn't have a name... BUT now he will never change homes again..

he had to travel in my back pack to get home...

Wow! Very pretty. Makes me so sad when people just discard pets, especially for a reason like that. Should have taken that into consideration when getting the pet. Glad you are giving him a good home. Sure is pretty!

At least snakes don't _really_ know. All he knows is he's in a loving home, now, with someone new that he will learn to trust.

Yeah, I agree that they may not have all the feelings and emotions that some animals do, but all that is familiar is now gone and that's not easy for any animal. But they adjust, like you said, and he'll be taken care of. That's the best part. :)

No I know they don't feel... But as an animal behaviorist it still tugged my heart string cause he/she was looking for what he/she knew as safe which was THAT scent.. And that he got rejected even though he/she handles it, they don't comprehend but I do..

And yes this guy/he/she/it lol will be staying with me now.. It's not the first discarded reptile I've taken in.. Won't be the last either..

Thank you for your kinds words, it is a very pretty snake, and social, when I opened the tub today to put him/she/it in the new tank I set up It just slithered out and up on my arm.. HOWEVER, it's been moving less in the new tank.. I had to cover the short side, my young savannah monitor (shes only 1.5 years and growing), was thinking food, and I noticed snake got nervous so I covered that part.. My older who's on the other side couldn't care less but I've had him for 5 years now or so he's well socialized and has manners.

After that It started investigating, I also got a stool sample off to my vet since he is not privately bred.. Just as a precaution.. Free pets are not always free... So far I have spent 150 dollars on It with the new stuff (I gave away the same exact tank a couple of months ago so I wouldn't be tempted to get a new lizard)... and the stool sample..

Here is the new enclosure it is not 30 gallon, it's only a 20 long... I am also going to get a branch in there and a few more leaves, this was just a quick set up for today.. It has previously only been in a ten gallon tank with NOTHING in it, one hide and one water bowl... However I am moving in a few months to a full size apartment and then I am going to get a nice reptile rack or stackable cages and start to really make them look pretty.. But I feel that this was better than a tub, I want some muscle on him as he is not as defined as other adult corns, (I keep saying him), I feel he's on the smaller side for a 3 year old so Im thinking it's a boy.. Im suspecting he's fat and not as healthy as he should be.. he has had very little exercise from what I understood.. Opinions are very welcome on that...

Thank you! So I finally got a length on him/her today.. 80 cm or 31 inches, give or take an inch.. the snake is supposedly almost 3 years old.. and he's 5.2 oz or 147 grams.. He is not loose in skin or body however, but just small... I suspect feedings may have been infrequent... well no more of that! Time to grow a little more snakey!
