Trinket snake :)

bella

mmm zombies....
well i originally went to the pet store to buy another betta and of course i had to take a look at the reptiles they had in. I could not believe it when i saw they had a trinket snake, and once i held her i knew that was the end of it. For the past three years i have been keeping my eye open for a trinket snake-with no luck, even travelling out of province to reptile expos. The only reason they had her in the first place was because a store manager who keeps snakes was downsizing her collection.
she seems healthy, although she was stuck in the middle of a really bad shed because they had her just on some aspen with low humidity. a few times at the store i got to see her do the neck flattening thing but no strikes. At home i worked on getting the shed off with some soaks and it took me about an hour and a half. after that she calmed right down and she is such a sweet girl!
I have her in a 20Long, which i am hoping will be big enough for her when she is full grown, i also put in a damp eco-earth hide and some dampened moss around the tank, misted and covered 2/3 off the top with saran wrap. i am hoping all these thing will keep the tank humid enough for her.
anyways-enough rambling. i took a few shots and then plan to leave her alone for a few days. maybe get some better pics after that. enjoy :)

Looks like an asian rat snake of some sort. At which time it occurs to me that small trinket snakes likely grow up into large trinket snakes.

"Trinket" implies smallish. What a strange name.

Hahaha your cat is great!

I've never heard of a Trinket Snake before...nice find, it's a pretty little thing :D

so wait, did you get a betta too? I'd love to see a photo of that too. I'm thinking of getting one - once my bugs live out their natural life span, should be ready for a fish in the summer.

well since i already have three bettas, i had to compromise. If i got the snake-no betta :(. It kinda blows though since i did have my eye on a really beautiful crowntail male. but i have a feeling i will end up with another one anyways in the future..whenever i seem to think i am done getting pets another one seems to sneak its way in...
so since i didn't have pics of a new fish i thought i would just post some of the fish i have now. so far, betta fish have been the only fish i have been drawn to and they come in so many colour variations i have never had two that looked the same. they are really active and fun to watch if given the space to swim around. i have two in eclipse 3 tanks, which i love.
anyways, here they are.. the first is a male green veiltail named Ewan Mcgregor, second a blue crowntail female named Nora, and the third is a red cambodian butterfly male named James Dean. the last two are my old bettas that passed away a few years ago. Sebi the spotted apricot veiltail and Sushimi the blue veiltail.

oops, i also wanted to thank everybody for the comments!! i think my trinket is going to become one of my favourite pets to photograph as she is so calm

I LOOOOOOVE BETTAS. You have no idea how much I love them. <3 If you're not already a member you should join www.ultimatebettas.com I think you'd like it there.

Also, I've always heard of trinket snakes but I've never seen one. It's very cute! And the name really does make me think it would stay small. How big do they get?

great to see another betta lover! lol. i am a member on the forum, although not as active in posting as in lurking around. its an awesome site.

trinket snakes do not stay trinket size unfortunately. the size differs on the gender. males are around 3 feet or so and females are usually 4-5 foot range, at least that is what i gathered from reading around. mine is just under 2 feet right now and was told she probed female, so she still has a bit of growing to do.

Raeanne, that Trinket is so absolutely adorable! And the cat?...well, nothing but hilarious. Me too about Bettas...I LOVE 'EM!

Pretty snake! Congratulations on finally finding one!

I wish I could keep bettas outside.

Eric,. these guys are pretty small as the asian rats go. These are from India. I actually own one, had a pair but my female passed years ago.

That trinket snake is beautiful! I love the pattern. I also LOLed at the pic of your cat. My cat sits like that sometimes. They think they are people!

thanks again for all the kind comments!

well, to prove i have no self control i ended up going back for the betta i was originally going to get. i was still thinking of him and had all the stuff ready so i just decided to get him so he would have a nice home for the rest of his life and free him from his tiny bowl. but i know that i am at my max for pets right now so next time i go to the pet store i am grabbing supplies and running out without looking at any animals! lol.

anyways here he is, i thought i would just post it here as i already talked about him and posted pics of my other fish, he is a crowntail male and his name is Zombie Frankenfish, or just Zombie.

plus mr. dexter makes another appearance.
