hey all,

well i went to feed Medusa yesterday witch is the her normal feeding day and she got real excited and followed the mouse around but when she got close she just rubbed the side of her mouth off her vines sniffed the mouse then completely ignored it, today i tried again and she got real excited and try to eat the mouse, she opened her mouth and bit in the nose twice then she backed away and rubbed the side of her mouth of her wall this time... iv never seen this before.. any ideas whats up ? she doesn't have mites cos iv been specially looking out for them...

thanks

Gently open her mouth and take a looksy. I believe there are at home treatments for this though I just can't remembr if its diluted hydrogen peroxide or not, how many times a day, or for how long, lol I know thats no help, but google it there is plenty of info and pictures for you to reference. If its not getting better under your care see a vet its not an uncommon occurance:)

she away behind her wall so cant get to her right now but il have a look tomorrow.. i'm really hoping its not mouth rot tho. thanks

I believe you will notice inflammation and broken blood vessels around the gums, rubbing, not feeding, mouth open at times, and salivation:)

Hey, is it possible she's near or in her shed cycle? Because one of mine who just shed was acting like that - interested in the food, even opened her mouth, but then backed down (although she wasn't really "rubbing"). Sometimes I think they're hungry but their old skin is tight, so when they go to open their mouth, they stop because it's uncomfortable.

If her mouth is clear, that might be a possibility.

i had a look in Medusa's mouth today and i didn't see any goo or anything but i did see small red like abrasions (dunno if thats the right word).. is this mouth rot? if it is how can i treat it or should i just go to someone who will definitely know what there doing? (theres a shop in Dublin that would know what there doing but i want to be sure its mouth rot because its quite a drive if it turns out theres nothing wrong)

thanks

I would say have it looked at since untreated mouth rot is deadly. It cn be caused by virus's, bacteria, and fungus and only a culture tells you which it is. Diluted betadine, nolvasan, or hydrogen peroxide can be used but sometimes an antibiotic is necessary too so I personally would go have it looked at to be safe:)

was just talking to the reptile haven people they said that it could be due to stress that this is happening and also shes nearing sexual maturity they told me not to worry and try her on a smaller mouse and leave her alone like no handling or anything and if its not cleared up by Tuesday they said to drop in and they'l sort me out with what i need :)

thanks
