Unfortunate coincidence?

The Ring and The Arrow
Well, as my life tends to go, I resolved recently to begin posting more often on forums I frequent. Concerning this forum and a couple of others, I was forced by my apartment complex to relinquish ownership of my snakes. Apparently neighbors have complained about some of the other snake-owning residents(one guy owns a BIG burm, but it is very calm), and so a blanket ban on non-legged reptiles was put into place. Goodbye to Mako, and Mitzi as well as unnamed Gopher Snake.

PS--Concerning the non-legged reptile thing, one resident tried to defend his right to own a legless lizard of some variety. Apparently unable to convince the management, they extended the ban to cover it as well.

Sorry to hear that.

Wonder what they had a problem with ... must have been the crapping in the yard or maybe the loud barking every night or maybe everytime they get off the leash when going for walks. (slight sarcasm)

After posting here several times about how I wouldn't care about my tenants owning reptiles, I actually had to ask one to give away their snake (never found out what it was) last week.
I had received a call from the owner that he went by and saw a large snake in a cage in the living room, and he was asking me to tell them it had to go. I told him that (at the time) I had 19 snakes of my own, and I couldn't imagine what kind of trouble a snake could make, but he was unmoved. He reminded me that the lease he wanted (and it was what I wrote) said no pets, and while he somewhat agreed with me, he didn't want to allow one pet only to find a dog there later. That's understandable after all it's in the lease.

But I would wonder about the legality of instituting this ban NOW when you are already a tenant. If I wanted to make a change like that, I'd have to give a full months notice to someone who was a month to month renter, and I'd have to wait for the lease to end on a renter who was on a year lease. You might want to look into the legality in your state on a sudden blanket ban when I'm assuming your lease actually says nothing about pet restrictions?

Maybe you can find a more pet friendly place to live?

That really sucks. There's not much you can do about the ATBs, I guess, but the gopher is a different story. You can't keep ATBs in Sterilite tubs under the bed, but you could probably get away with it with your gopher, or with corns or other North American colubrids. I'm not usually one to encourage others to break the rules, but when the rules are stupid...
