Uniformly Enforced Rules and Regulations?

I do have a few question about bans.
When you are banned, can you still view posts but just not post yourself?
Are you banned by user name, or by some techy thing that bans your IP address?
I'm just curious about this. No reason really.

I believe one can be banned by either user name or IP address. I have moderated a couple vB based boards, and both options were always there. Obviously IP bans are a little more severe; if I'm not mistaken, if you try to access the board under an IP ban you will receive a ban/error message, whereas you would only see that upon logging in with a user name ban.

If you need to know, IP address for sure. Jay was banned for a lil bit and Ashley and myself still have nonbanner names but use the same IP address. Jay had to promise not to log under his username so Ashley and I could still come on the forum.

BUT...I am sure they can lock your username out too.
