I rescued this ballpython from a pet shop about a week ago. When I first saw him, he was in HORRIBLE condition from monthsof neglect with his previous owner. My favorite shop took him from the kid, and gave him to me. For the full story and some "before" pictures, checkout my thread "Need Advice From BP Owners..."
Anyhow...1 week and 30grams later, he is feeling much better...as am I. He has eaten 2 full weanlings for me(in less than a week
), and is starting to more closly resemble what a BP *should* look like, though he is still agonizingly thin(he was 124grams when I brought him home, and is currently 154grams). All of his old shed is gone(finally) after some soaking and help from me, his eyes are starting to clear up from a black, cloudy iris to now they are starting to show some color and are clear, and, the best of all...he trusts me. He allows me to pick him up when I need to fix something in his cage, and no longer cowers in a tight little ball if I go near him.
I am using Eco-Earth coconut substrate to maintain high humidity levels, and he is no longer dehydrated. I also have his 2 dry hides(one hot side, one cool), and a humid hide using sphagnum moss. Since he doesn't burrow, at all, I have an unregulated UTH underneath the approximately 1 inch of coconut fiber substrate, which keeps his substrate surface temp in the low to mid-80's, and a daytime as well as a nighttime spotlight which allows him a basking temp in the low to mid 90's. I am also keeping his enclosure at a relative humidity of approximately 60-70%. So far...he seems to be quite happy with the setup, and can be seen thermoregulating at night, though he is rarely seen during the day.
Anyhow...hope you all enjoyed readingabout his progress even half as much as I am enjoying seeing it.
Thanks for Looking!!
