UTH problem

Do you have a thermostat to set the UTH to the right temp? Maybe it's too humid in the tank (or there's underlying humidity near the UTH) and the heat is causing it to evaporate, but collect on the glass... what is the humidity level?

I do not have a thermostat or humidity level reader as I was given my corn with a tank... so busy setting up a bigger and better tank... I was wondering if it is just a ventelation prob coz the UTH does not get hot at all its actually just warm to the touch.... should I add some more vent holes for the time being until my othe viv is up and ready

What is warm to your or I may be HOT to your snake! Our skin's temperature can be up to 95F, which is too hot for a snake, so it feeling warm to the touch could be dangerous.
It is IMPERATIVE that you get a hygrometer for humidity and TWO thermometers ASAP!! I have heard that a good range for humidity is 30-50%, and cool side temps should be 73-75F, warm side should be around 83-85F. There needs to be a temperature gradient within the tank for your snake to choose what is comfortable to them.

Also, UTHs need to have space between the outside of the glass (where the mat must be placed, NOT inside the tank), and the stand it is on, to allow air circulation.

I hope this helps. I know there will be other input as well. Good luck!

Forgot to add, thermostats for the UTH helps keep the heat to an appropriate level (i.e. 85F), instead of letting it get as hot as it will get. This could very well clear the problem of water vapour you are having (as well as keeping with the health of your snake)! Along with knowing your humidity percent.

Just like NH93 said!!! If that UTH feels warm to you, you are at serious risk of burning your snake! You need to get a thermostat, digital thermometer, and hygrometer ASAP! I would shut the UTH off and not feed your snake until you have these.

After re-reading your second post Manni K... you suggested adding more ventilation holes. Does your tank not have a mesh lid? Or, what kind of tank and lid is it??

I agree with the above. It isn't just opinion if you have a uth u need a thermostat when I was testing my uth on its own it was getting up to 110. My uth is on a thermostat and bounces between 81.6 and 85.3 the humidity is not really a huge issue in my eyes because of where I live but home improvement stores carry indoor/outdoor thermometers that have built in hygrometers so you can measure the humidity and cool and warm side.

Thank you all for all the comments really appreciate all the help... I will be getting all the above mentioned this weekend...

NH93 the tank I got with the snake is a small fish tank with a plastic lid with 2 small holes in the side and one larger one in the middle on the top...

I have switched my UTH off for now until I have all the necessary equipment.

You can also get mesh lids (and clips/locks) at most pet stores to fit the size of your tank! :) That's what I use, and it works like a charm.

Is the viv damp anywhere inside- or do you just have the water bowl, with no spills? My hatchling racks will mist up if there is any sort of water spill.

If you do have that heat gradient going on, the water bowl should be on the cool side (not the middle), maybe that could help as well?
It's so hard to tell, but if I were you I would just do a bunch of different things - trial and error. :)
