Valentine's day candy? What's your fave?

smigon

Old enough to know better
I tried to order my favorite Molasses Puffs from a candy maker in St. Louis, I could never get ahold of them to take an order, so I ordered some from Amazon. BIG mistake. The bag describes them as "chocolate-flavored coating" over the molasses. The molasses was decent, but the chocolate is nasty.

My husband proposed to me after he gave me a box of chocolate covered strawberries, I had one in my mouth and he pulled the ring box out. They are my favorites, and Costco usually sells them freshly made this time of year. I work on V-Day, so tomorrow we will celebrate. That doesn't mean I wasn't allowed to test the molasses puffs!

What is your traditional favorite?

My faves are Pixies and maple creams. One year my husband got me Pixies and maple creams for Valentine's Day. Ate them and felt so sick ... thought I was getting the flu. Nope, turns out I was pregnant! They're still my favorites.

I love candy hearts! And you know those dark chocolate oranges, that you break, and they split into sections? Those. And real dark chocolate-covered candied oranges- they're hard to find. And of course Godiva truffles. But since I'm still working on candy from my birthday- no Valentine's Day candy for me!!

If it has chocolate, it's a go. lol

If I were forced to pick, though, I'm a sucker for the Ferrero Rocher hazelnut chocolates. <3

Oh my gosh, I love those, but haven't found any in forever. I was trying to describe them to a friend of mine just the other day, and she just looked at me like I had three heads. And she thought they sounded disgusting. BE QUIET, FRIEND! CHOCOLATE ORANGES ARE THE BEST!

I don't have a favorite valentines-specific candy, but I do love classic sugar cookies, or black-eye susan cookies... Mmm...And those nerds ropes. Mmm-mmm!

Love the chocolate oranges! I forgot about those!

Lindt makes really good chocolate called "Excellence Bars" for drug/grocery stores, and one flavor is "Intense Orange". It has little pieces of orange in it. http://www.lindtexcellence.com/discover/excellence-intense-orange.php My other fave by them is "Chili". It is spicy, and really good! You wouldn't think it, but it is. You can find the bars at Walgreens, WalMart, and grocery stores.

Jim surprised me with chocolate-covered strawberries today and a pot of beautiful lavender calla lilies, whereas I shamefully handed him a bag of "chocolate-flavored coated" molasses puffs.

He wins.

See's makes really great chocolate. I like the chocolate oranges (and the raspberry and lime) too. Plus I love smacking them on the counter.

I was at a chocolate festival last weekend and I tried a super delicious/expensive chocolate that was bananas foster. I don't remember the name of the company, though.

Smigon - I have tried several of those Lindt bars. I wasn't crazy about the chili one, but I think I would have liked it better if it wasn't such dark chocolate. They make a hazelnut one that I really love.

Chocolate dipped fruits made with the girlfriend. It's a fun activity to do together and you wind up a with a ton of chocolate covered fruit!
