Vet- OW!!

Alien Lover
$196!!

Exam- $35x2
Fecal- $13x2
Gram Stain- $26x2
Oral Deworming- $10x2 (half price) repeat weekly for three more times...
Injection Deworming- $28x1 repeat in two weeks

And my signature has two less unsexed snakes- Maizey is a male, as I suspected, and Addy is a female, as I suspected.

Both had different kinds of parasites. Addy's the lucky winner of the injection. Gram stains were negative for bacteria on both.

I hadn't brought a snake to my vet before and I was pleased with the exam which included listening to the heart and lung and an external going-over. (As if I'd bring in a snake with mites!!)

He suggests bringing in the rest, saying that though they are all CB, they could still be carrying parasites. I'll have to spread that out at $75 a pop not counting any treatment.

He said he used probiotics on all his reptiles on a regular basis. (He has a nice colony of panther chams which I got the grand tour of.)

So- that's the news. He also suspected the regurges were due to a bad batch of mice.

Oh, and the really embarassing part is he had to float me the $196 till next Tuesday, since I get paid Friday, and this was beyond my expectations...(I'd naively hoped for about a hundred dollars.)

Mark of a good vet though. My vet is a lot like this... always willing to talk about any husbandry questions or concerns I have, and when Cate passed, he did the necropsy for free, even though I was a brand new client. Very nice of him!!

His name is Dr. Craig Hill, at Falls Road Animal Hospital, for anyone in the Baltimore, MD, area.

Eugh.

Well, despite the financial 'ickiness', it sounds like you found a very good guy for your snakes. Best of luck with the others.

Well, I've been through the mill with my pigeon with that vet- a couple surgeries- so I know him well. And I had the Florida Box Turtle, Krusty, that got treated for pneumonia this winter- that was my first reptile experience. He at least let me give the turtle my own shots to save money.

That's the price you pay for being such a scrupulous keeper :). I would venture to guess that they're worth a lot more to you than a couple hundred $ anyway.
