hope this is the right place!!!

basically i have a glass 18" viv where i kept my anery corn which escaped! only way it coulda got out was between the small gap between the sliding doors! bummer i know! anyway i have just bought a motley corn as my anery hasnt turned up yet. to the problem i face ----> i have a smaller plastic container inside my viv for this one but i fear it is too small but i am so scared that it will escape if i let it loose in the glass viv. my motley is bout 3 months old i am told and is due fed in the morning. the man in the shop tells me last time he fed it 2 pinkys i would estimate that it is bout a foot long. do u think it will be ok in the glass viv? i just dont wanna lose another snake!!!!

i used a regular 10 gallon tank when my snakes where small, you can get a wire top and weigh it down with anything and they are not going anywhere. a 10 gallon tank only cost me like $8.00 so i dont know what they run for where you are at but i would say it shouldnt be much an plus whats 8$ if it means your snake is not gonna escape (thats if you use it right of course) so why take the chance, i would get a 10 gallon until the snake reaches a size that it cannot fit in the gap then you can put it back in the viv.

He wont get out through any gaps. Sliding doors in cages are not (in my opinion) good for any snake that is at least 75 grams. And if you use a sliding glass door I would always use a lock anyway.

HERE is a place that sells them.

As for the regular ten gallon cage. I assume you are referring to a glass one? The one's I get I think are about $20, but that's just around here. If you get a regular one then the screen top should fit perfectly over the top with no gaps for the snake to slip through, as said, weigh it down, but if you can find some good, stiff metal (not plastic unless they are REALLY stiff) clips for the cage that is good too, as an added precaution. The ten gallons are 20 inches long x 10 inches wide x 12 inches high.

In my opinion, if your going to get a ten gallon I'd get a critter cage. it has a sliding ( not like sliding doors though), lockable top that I feel is much more secure than the regular ten gallon tops. The cage may be as much as $20 more, but it's a good investment in my opinion. Either the normal cage or crittercage works great.

Hope that helps!

i have a lock on the doors it must have been the small gap between the doors. i guess equipment in the uk is dearer as my glass viv which is 18" long, roughly 8" deep and bout 10" high cost me £90. i got it set up properly with heatmat, light etc. is it the size of his head i go by? just really dont want him 2 escape

Well, the rule of thum for air holes is 1/8 of an inch diameter for absolute safety, so that's a good number to go by for gaps, but depending on the size of the snake a 3/16 hole would be okay. For a hatchling I'd go with 1/8 across on all holes. Make sure the hole isn't much more than that wide either.

Hope your new guy does well, and don't give up on your anery hatchling!! Always keep an eye oben for a dark pencil crawling across the floor!

I use a regular 10 gal tank and wire top for both my babies. I use a bungie cord on both of them to keep the pests from getting out of the cages. I spent less then 10 bucks each for the glass aquariums at Walmart. Use 2 bungie cords each cage. Bought a 4 pack at Dollar General for 2 dollars each....sooooooo, each cost me about 10 bucks to outfit (without the UTH'S).

Hope this helps...Good Luck!

i will get my measuring tape out 2nite then! plan to let him out 2moro as i will be in most of the afternoon/ evening to watch him. hopefully he will try and escape while i am there and i will know if he can squeeze through the gap or not! fed him 2day so he should be a bit bigger. he is already bigger than what my anery was so hopefully should be fine. just dont wanna start another mad search. my mrs is not happy with me since i have ripped off wooden panelling and skirting boards looking for my anery! oopss lol

just measured the gap! its 1/8th inch wide problem i think is that it runs the vertical length of the doors. btw the sliding doors are on the front of the viv. might let him out 2moro while i am in the room watching the football.
