Wanting to escape?

well i was having problems with my snake escaping for a few days but i got a new lid today and that problem is solved. but right now atm my snake is STILL trying to escape. is this normal?

i've had it since thursday

Ours did when we brought him home.
I would think it only natural (although could be wrong).

1) What size enclosure is he in?
2) Heating and hides and water all included in his setup?
3) No heat rocks.
4) Make sure you get lid clips to lock down your new cover...the corns are very strong and determined.

Ours got out as a hatchling (before I got the screen clips). Thankfully we found him in our son's closet under his sleeping bag (we were so worried he'd slipped down one of the heat registers :bang: )

well he's in a 30 gal aquarium i know it's big but i gave him MANY hides and it appears to me that he's picked out his favorite seeing as it's really the only one he ever uses.. even if he is on the other side he'll scurry over to that place :p

and i have difficulty taking the lid off so i'm pretty sure the snake wouldn't be able to do it. he was getting out before because he was using the thermometer/hygrometer as a step to get up to this ledge on the inside top of the aquarium then going along that to this little gap i found in the old lid i had lol... ing ingenius is swear, i never would have thought it'd use the thermometer as a step stool hah

They are inventive little ones. :)

We have our adult corn in a 55 gallon so I hear ya...We want him to have plenty of room, and you're right, it seems prviding extra hides lets him explore when he wants and duck in when he needs to.

I think by nature corns are docile but still maintain their need for seclusion as self defense etc., genetically encoded and all that. Our 3 year old corn will come out for our son about 75% of the time, but it requires a lot of patience on our sons part. Snakes are not dogs, they will not run to greet you after school/work. :crazy02: Which is part of their charm, for us anyway.

He will almost always hide if we walk into the room and catch him by surprise. But if we are already in the room he may come out and explore. As he has gotten older he has become more tolerant...but we are still giants in their eyes :bang:

Ours used to somehow get a grip on the upper edge within the tank and try to cruise, then smack!, he'd belly flop crash to the ground. Adding the PVC playland seems to have ended that behavior, we were concerend he would be injured in one of the falls.

Anyway, sounds like you have a nice set up.
1)Be sure to check your temps. If he is always trying to escape under the heat light he may just need an elevated basking spot on which to warm up a bit...
2)Ours also tries to "escape" when he is hungry...he usually would eat every 10 days but occasionally he needs a meal at the 7 day mark.
3)Now that our male is "an adult" he also seemed to be on a mission when "the season" started...

Have fun!
