WAY not cornsnake related but...

I use to have a very strong stomach. I learned how to skin and dress elk and deer at 10yrs old. Not sure I could do it now tho, its been a few years. I am having a hard time when my kids start bleeding or get road rash LOL

My sister is a vet tech and she has told me some of the stories about dealing with animals. I think the one that turned my tummy was the poor dog that had a wound that was full of maggots.

She has expressed my cat's anal gland and drew blood while she was in school. Sunny is a cat that will let you do anything to him. So he was a good learning "live" animal for the class.

I could definitely mess with the bones though. My husband and daughter still think I am weird because I want to preserve my cat in some way!

Oh man, you are so lucky! That's awesome. I keep trash bags in the trunk of our car for situations just like this.

Yes I will be keeping bags, gloves and probably a bucket in my rig lol...I just bought a 2011 X-Terra so there will be PLENTY of room lol...I just started this endevour so I want to see how the badger turns out before I get TOO involved...but it's something I've always wanted to do so it's been a fun start!

And here I've never had a gf cool with mice and rats in the freezer.

lol seriously GREAT thread.

Lol Chip!! I am definitely NOT your average female lol...dead mice in my freezer, reptiles in the livingroom, willing to de-flesh badgers (and potentially other critters) to harvest their little skelingtons...lol...the list goes on

I've been very fortunate that my girlfriend is so accepting of my wide variety of odd hobbies. I had a fox hide and partially defleshed skull in the freezer for a while. She didn't blink an eye.

Very cool, and looks in great shape for road kill! Too bad abut the hide but they are not the best this time of year anywhere. Do you know how you plan on cleaning it, Im sure you have done some research but im just curious, haha. I love those front claws on badgers!

@komodo: the further I clean the skull the more damage I find. Not surprising as he was hit by a vehicle, just makes more work later. Going to have to find some nylons to keep all the pieces together as they "marinate" lol. I plan on doing water maceration first...see how that works out. I am tossing around the idea of investing in a small colony of beetles also.

I did find some raw skulls for sale online that I am tempted in purchasing as side projects, so we shall see.

I have done the maceration for skulls and I found it works very well, but the smell is not the most pleasant thing, to put it lightly. Just make sure you whiten them with the peroxide and that tends to kill the smell on the bones afterwards. If you want to try to find an intact badger skull taxidermy.net in the for sale section is a good place to find one. Make sure to keep us updated on the process!

Seems perfectly normal to me...

I have signed up on taxidermy.net and have been reading up on things. I want to try to keep as many original parts as I can (since I threw out his baculum on accident..........). If I can't get the skull put back together I will find one online.

@Nanci: lol!

Well considering I just purchased a gun yesterday and put an order in for one today *cough* I better stop while I'm ahead LOL!
