We Are... Penn State!!!!! Pictures from the big game!

Boy can I see this thread getting nice and nasty. :grin01:

Yea...you guys killed us in the National Championship last year but both teams lost key players. I think this year if we played it would be a closer game. But really...you never want to lose on homecoming. :sidestep:

Ohio State, no other school...

I give you credit for last years national champ bowl win. Gators won.
 Basketball champ means little to me though. I rate my sports like this ...

1. NCAA football
1. High school football
1. NFL
2. MLB
3. NBA
...
10. NCAA basketball
...
50. NHL
...
100. everything else
...
1000. soccer(get all I ever need on ESPN highlights) and cricket(just don't get this game but when I lived in England it was fun to watch because English women hung out there lol)

Well just think....

It took the University of Florida 100 years to accomplish what FSU did in 50.

Between 1993 and 2000, FSU played for 5 national titles, winning 2. It certainly would have been 3 if Chris Weinke had been healthy for the 1998 Fiesta Bowl. How many national titles did UF play for in the 90's? Two.

UF won their first national title on a rematch game against an entire FSU team stricken with the flu. UF won their second national title after complaining that Michigan didn't deserve a rematch game against OSU....

In fact, Urban Crier whined that if Ohio State had to play Michigan again for the national title and lost----they should just go ahead and call themselves Nat'l Champs anyway.

So I suppose, readjust the records book to show that FSU was in fact National Champs in 1996.

It will be awfully damn sweet to see LSU spank some ass this weekend and watch the Goaters drop their second game in a row---and drop into the 20's. Now that their offensive has been outed....again...I wouldn't be surprised to see them lose two out of four against: South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, and FSU.

Enjoy the run, and enjoy the 2008 Outback Bowl. The year of the Gator is most definitely over.

Get over yourself...

If Florida was an independent and then in the ACC, they would have many more title shots as well.
To say Florida won their first against a flu stricken team. Not Florida's fault. Then to say Florida State would of had a third title if Weinke hadn't been hurt. Excuses. You still gotta play the game.
As far as last year, we saw who the best team was. Michigan had their chance and lost. Why should they have had another chance? Michigan in fact lost four in a row.
Florida has beaten FSU how many years in a row? Even with Zook.

What does, "...readjust the record books to show that FSU was in fact National Champs in 1996." mean?

Don't have to tell me the year of the Gator is over. College ball changes every couple of years. But get them while ya can. These guys are young... but they are good.
You're laughing at the Outback Bowl? A News Year Day Bowl. Will FSU make it back to the.... Emerald Bowl? A two day after Christmas Bowl.

Now having said that, I hope FSU wins the ACC.

Funny, the University of Florida blocked FSU's admission into the SEC for how many years? In 1991, after nearly 30 years of trying to gain admission to the SEC, FSU agreed to become the 9th team of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

If you doubt those facts, reference the article 'FSU and the ACC' written in 1991 and found in the 'Florida Times Union'. It gives a very telling history about FSU's conference affiliation and the steps it took to try and gain entrance into the SEC for all of those years---only to have the ACC come along in 1991 and offer a package better than the SEC finally offered.

To state that FSU would not have become a dynasty or played in as many National Championship games if it had been in the SEC is delusional. Between the year 1990 and 1999, FSU faced UF 12 times. FSU's record in the series? 7-4-1. During the 1990's, UF was the cream of the SEC. FSU didn't seem to have an issue handling the SEC's best team on quite the regular basis, so why assume that would be any different on a week to week basis?

I never said that UF winning the 1996 Sugar Bowl was 'anyone's fault'. The fact remains that most of the FSU team, including just about the entire defense was either ailing from the flu or food poisoning. That game was very close at the half when 90% of FSU's team went into the locker room for IV treatment. Of course, like you said---that's no excuse.

What I do find comedically entertaining is what the Crier said last year. While trying to lobby for UF to weasel it's way into the Championship game, he flat out stated that a rematch between teams that played in the regular season was unfair. He said that if Ohio State had to replay Michigan for the National Title and lost---that OSU should make up rings and declare themselves Champs anyway.

Do you not find that to be the most comic display of irony? How did the University of Florida win it's 1st National Title? I do believe it was a rematch....and I do believe it was against Florida State----just 6 weeks after #2 FSU beat #1 Florida 24-21 in DCS. Why did Florida deserve a rematch in 1996, but Michigan didn't deserve a rematch in 2006? What's even funnier is the margin of defeat for both of those schools was identical---3 points.

Michigan lost what? To OSU? So what? What's the better loss? Losing at #1 Ohio State by 3 points, or losing at Auburn by two scores? A team that lost 2 games by a combined 39 points? Sorry, but I'd have to say that Michigan had the better loss.

And to answer your question, it's been 3 years in a row. That my friend, will end this year in the Swamp. UF had minimal success last year against FSU in Tallahassee, and this year FSU returns a much deeper team. They have found a quarterback that can do more than tuck the ball and run 15 qb draws in a game. The defense is monumentally better than UF's---and paybacks will be fantastic.

It's about time that the rightful order of athletics in the State of Florida is put back in order.

FSU > Miami > UF

To think Michigan deserved a rematch....

is delusional. That last game of the year was their shot and they lost it.
I'm tired of the "rematch" clause invoked by everyone.
In 96 Joe Florida had no shot until they won the SEC in a championship game. And yes Texas A&M with an upset win in the Big 12 championship. FSU had no extra game to win or lose. Not saying it is their fault, just what happened. Michigan of course and the Big Ten w/o a championship game. Not Florida's fault, the way it is. Playing that SEC Championship game got them in. As far a Meyer, it is his job to get the team in the game. Florida deserved it. They played the toughest schedule in the nation.

BTW Joe, I'm leaning toward a playoff system. You thoughts?
And also I think the pecking order in Florida just may be USF, Florida, FSU, Miami, UCF, FAU, FIU.

LSU wins big on the morrow.

Not a fan of a playoff system, at all.

I much prefer the BCS style as it is today, especially compared to what it was a decade ago. Though, I wouldn't at all be opposed to a 'plus one' system where 1 plays 4, and 2 plays 3 in the traditional bowl format. The winners of those games would play in the NC game (at one of the major 4 bowls) the following week.

Well I think the playoff system would be okay. There are pros and cons about it, as there are about everything. One thing is it would take longer because of all the games. But also there would be less controversy if there are 3 or more teams that all deserve to play in the NC.

And Joe, I do like the sounds of that system. That is another good way they could do it.

I went to a really small college, so I was unaware of the phenomenon that is a big college football game. Until I was in Wisconsin visiting relatives and got an opportunity to be down on the field (running film for an AP photographer) for an Ohio state vs. Wisconsin game. It was cold, the crowd was huge and red and loud, and I'll never forget it! Made me wish I went to a big school...

First App State...now Stanford? College football is super crazy this year. Stanford 24 USC 23.

Now if Florida can beat LSU then the top 2 teams lose!

Cal falls too!!!

You should be excited. The two losses should put OSU at #1.

I'm just glad after UK beat LSU, some of the so-called "experts" on ESPN will have to give my Wildcats some respect. They kept saying we had not beat a quality team. Well now we have!

I would but too early for that. We have a tough 2nd half of schedule.

10/20 Mich St
10/27 at Penn State
11/03 Wisconsin
11/10 Illinois
11/17 at Michigan
