Hi all,

I've had my 7 month old corn snake Stevie for about a month now, and a week ago I had to ship him from FL to NYC when I moved. Needless to say it's been a stressful first month for him!

Quick info:
He got here 6 days ago and I haven't touched him since as I was instructed to do. Oddly, he hasn't used any of the hides I have for him (even though one of them is his old hide that he used to love) and instead prefers to burrow in the aspen, which he used to do a lot of in FL too. The only thing is, he found a way to burrow right underneath his big ol water dish! Pic attached. It's cute sure, but next time I clean the tank I want to put the water dish on the glass instead of on the aspen. I'm just worried it's too heavy for him! Is it too heavy for him?

Anyway, he hasn't left that spot for 4 days now (and it's on the cool side) and he hasn't eaten for 2 weeks. I haven't worried too much about feeding because I know we're supposed to leave them for a week before handling them post-shipping, and then I thought oh maybe he's about to shed, but I have not even seen him take a sip of water.

He has popped his head out a few times, but as soon as he sees me moving around he ducks back inside. I'm so worried now and since it's almost going to be a week since he's been back, I'm thinking of handling him today. Is he going to freak out if I lift the water bowl off of him? I ask, because I think he's afraid of me. Is he hiding from me? Is he okay? When should I feed him? How can I get him to drink some water?

Oops forgot to attach! That's his BIG water bowl...

He may be hiding and acclimating slowly. You can try to place some food on a deli cup until he's used to being handled regularly. He likely is drinking at night and you haven't seen it. :) don't worry about the little disturbance of changing his water bowl. When he grabs food he'll be glad to return there if he likes it.

I also wouldn't worry yet. He's been through a big move and he's still settling in. Of my 3 snakes I have only seen one drink, ever. He's most likely getting water when you are not around.

Okay, I just took obboi34's suggestion and he snatched that hopper in a heartbeat! Hopefully digestion goes well.

Also thank you Nanci...I wasn't sure since I was warned before about some water bowls or viv decor that can hurt snakes if not used properly, but when I lifted it he seemed quite cozy down there.

One more thing...so I took the water bowl out to give him some room for the feeding, but now he is just resting in that spot. Do I put it back in? it seems like a bad idea to just plop it on top of him while he's trying to digest! But maybe he needs some water?

Are these stupid questions? Sorry!! I'm so paranoid about hurting him or making him regurg :(

What I do when replacing water is place the empty bowl back down and slowly fill it. Ideally when he's not under it though since it is his fave spot that can be difficult. ;) doing it that will not hurt him though and he will move the bedding around accordingly.
