Weird thing with Rodent pro packaging?

Arpolis

Corn Snake Breeder
I thought of this the other day and thought I would try it out myself, but wanted to see if anyone else has thought of this. When you order some mice or rats from rodent pro they have some plastic wrapped insulation in the box to keep the dry ice from melting. I found that the insulation in the box is exactly the same amount of insulation in one of the water heater wraps you can buy for $20+ bucks. Just a little duct tape here and there to patch the 3 sheets of insulation from the Rodent Pro box and there you have it! A perfect fit water heater cover that saves you gas "or electricity" every year. Any one else try this or am I just that much of a hippy trying to recycle everything I get?

I used the strips of insulation to place behind my rack, to keep heat in for the winter. It helps. Reusing is awesome!

I use some of the wrapping as padding b/w my desk and the tank. My downstairs neighbor loves to blast bass and it helps absorb the shock a little.

I've used it as extra insulation in the attic of my snake building (and an extra layer in some of the walls of my old snake building) since it staples up nicely to the studs. I also save it to wrap around the grafts of my citrus trees during those occasional hard winter freezes. (Gotta save the grafts if even the top 95% freeze back!) I've used it for outside faucet/pipe insulation during the winter (discard when done to be replaced next year). I've even used it to make a temporary overflow solar wax melter. ;)

Now that I think about it, the WALLS of the mouse house is almost completely insulated with that stuff from them. I did put it 2 layers thick, though.

Except when I moved from TX to LA and didn't want to transport a big dang pile of it 8 hours, I can't remember the last time I threw it away without using it for at least something else first.

Right now, I'm stockpiling it to use to insulate an unused garage door. It's blocked by wracks for another one of by hobbies, anyway, so I might as well put insulation in the grooves and paneling to hold it in and make it look nice.
