Yep...after all this time I finally had an escapee...and I feel like a REAL ass as I type this (but don't we all when this happens?)...tonight is feeding night and as per usual I am prepping everything and putting everyone in their bins, etc...First 2 feedings go well...cool, Omnom and Mimi are fed...on to Mr. Sassypants (Hogwort)...get his deli cup ready...go to retrieve him from his viv......aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand yep....the little stinker isn't anywhere to be found...I tore it apart, sifted through his shavings multiple times and yeah...he found a way out and I hate to say, sometime between last feeding day and today (approx. 1 week...as he tends to be a hidey snake most of the time anyway I really didn't notice :( ) Not to mention I am currently taking care of a terminally ill boxer who has a brain tumor so most of my focus and attention has been on her as much as I hate to admit it..............

I don't go straight into panic mode, but my first thought was "sh*t put the dogs away...ok now lets find him before the s/o comes inside"...put the 5 dogs away and proceed to tear the dining room/aka snake/misc. crap room apart. I remember what everyone says..."track along the walls"...thinking to myself "CRAP he fell in the air vent...but keep looking anyway"...so I'm looking along the walls, in every box I come across and under everything...low and behold, I find the little brat behind a box, along a wall and hiding under a package of sticky notes appropriately labeled for this exact situation...once I moved said sticky notes I found him playing dead under them and he promptly flipped over like "HUH?!"...I am SO relieved as he could've ended up ANYWHERE in my house and it is a horrendous cluttered mess (5 dogs, 2 cats, bookshelves all over, taxidermy stuff all over...my gods *facedesk*) Anyway I thought I would include said sticky notes and the box/crap I found him behind :eek1::eek1::eek1:........I am amazed I found him so quickly and in good shape...

Appropriately labeled stickies...

The box with the frying pan ontop of it...he was behind there, under the stickies playing dead...you can see two dog bowls in each corner...lucky little brat

Well I'm glad you found him! Now you just need to figure out how he got out so he can't do it again.

Trust and believe I'm on that...he is safely secured in his deli cup for the night and I will remedy the situation tomorrow...UGH!

So am I!!!! Seriously I get sick thinking about any of the places he could've ended up...I'm tickled he was located where he was...just across the room from where his viv is located...soooooooo lucky

Whew, so glad you found him!

I have had 2 escapees this year/ever. One I found right away, he had only been out for a couple hours. The other took a few hours to find, he had been out for up to 2 days before I realized it. My husband found him in the basement.

It happens to every one.

I'm very glad my snake room is completely sealed.....before it was, I had a baby get out of his container and I found him in bed behind the clock...my cats were trying to trap him...my hubby got up the in the morning and asked if there had been a snake in the bed...I said yes there was....I sealed the bottom of the door after that!

I've had a couple escapees as well, 1 escaped on me twice before I realized where he was escaping from. Another when I didn't shut a tub all the way and a baby that managed to get away from a tub I was using to hold several babies while I moved them. That last one was found in the laundry by my fiance who is petrified of the snakes of course

Now that I have hots I have to have a sealed room.....I don't want to risk anything getting loose into the house and putting my other animals or ourselves at risk.

They are, and they certainly aren't for everyone. You definitely need a proper set up to keep them. There are no laws here about how you keep them but I keep to the standards of some of the more restricted states. Each cage is locked, marked with species, common name, sex and how many in the cage. I also have them in a sealed room....protocol book and hooks/tongs by the door. Hopefully never have to use the protocol book and as long as I stay careful I should never need to!

He's my newest and probably the most fun. Cottonmouths are so underrated but they are very cool. Watched him slurping up water last night from his big water tub....he loves swimming in it. Usually he hangs out near the door to see if some food might suddenly fall inside!
