what happend to rock music?

I would never buy just a single. You just don't know which songs, which B-sides, on an album, are going to end up being favorites.

Rich333, whatever. You buy and like new music.

I appreciate old music, and when I hear a song from my teenage years playing, I always think- I _loved_ that album, I should totally buy it from iTunes! So I go back and listen to Deep Purple or Jackson Brown or whatever, and it just isn't as great as I remembered...

Rich Z- so you listen to _nothing_ in the car? That would drive me crazy. I listed to talk radio while commuting. iTunes albums on longer trips around the state. Audio books or albums when I drive up to Ohio. I even have a dog (Ella) who sings along with The Band Perry now.

Nanci.... Whatever! Of course I do.... But it's music!!

Black stone cherry
Theory of a deadman
Halestorm
Nickleback

That's pretty much it since 1990.

See a pattern? They all have that same grind/sound as the 70's/80's music .

Ooppps....

Forgot jackyl.

But in all these instances.... They are bands! 4-5 people, all talented enough to play an instrument.

Let's see- I'm not as much of a stick in the mud as Rich is...

You might like the album Voices on the Verge.

I'll check out VotV ;-)

My bet is Rich did not even try to listen ... none of those are like what he said he doesn't like....

Mike Mangione and the Union ... I recommend that anyone take a listen to their CD "Tenebrae" for starters. But, most importantly with this band - go see 'em live. They are way better live than on a disc. An example ( the strings are live, the band in includes violin and cello players):

I like a wide range of music. But I'm mostly fond of metal. However there are sadly very little US bands that I listen to. Most of the metal I listen to (as well as other music such as doom) is from other countries. Mainly European countries.

The only thing is that some of the bands that I've discovered have gotten kind of popular and as a result have changed their sound a little bit. Sounding more generic and it saddens me when this happens.

As for buying albums. I still buy CDs and special editions for bands that I really like. I'll sample the songs online first and if I really love them, I'll order the CD.

Yup! You'd be absolutely correct! I know what I like, when I like it. Don't need help discovering new things. ;)

Depends on how you look at it. Those new things you speak of....I'd never eat on my own. Regardless of whether I like them or not.

But this is about music.

I have a pretty good vinyl collection. And I definitely think there are a few newer bands that are good old rock and roll. You just really gotta search for them. The black keys are fantastic. Somebody mentioned halestorm they seem pretty good. New medicine has a good record. But honestly I'm more into punk rock. I like all music though.

According to radio stations this is what rock is becoming?

It just sounds like every other electronic music to me, but they keep playing this song and calling it "new electronic rock".
My boyfriend and I will probably have to stop listening to that station soon ._.

Oh well, at least I still have Pandora and itunes radio to play my fill of 70s rock, metal, and 90s alternative ;)

Find their album 'Pardon Me'

also Grace Potter and the Nocturnals are good. I like the bluesy type rock, however I also like classic rock, 80's hairband, 80's metal, etc.....

Uhhh, I guess I fail at posting youtube videos?

Actually, I LOVE Phantogram!! They have been one of my top 3 favorite current "bands" for the past four years or so.

I don't listen to radio much, so it's a surprise to me to hear they are getting play time on the radio. Classifying them as "electric rock" sounds about right. It's not the usual 70's/80's (90's/00's) type of rock, but it's not meant to be and they aren't parading as such. (And even within those subsets, there are tons of different rock genres). But that's why I rarely listen to the radio, they rarely have what I'm looking for. (Though when I do listen to the radio, it's for classic rock stations playing Floyd, Zeppelin, Rush, Queen, The Who, etc... Those types of stations tend to play more of what I'm looking for when I'm in that kind of a mood).

Rock is ever evolving and ever changing. Whatever type of rock you are looking for it's probably being made, just not necessarily playing on the radio. If you expect to find anything good on the radio these days, you're gonna have a bad time (probably). Pandora has definitely been one of my favorite music apps for finding new bands. I love so many different genre's of music, so it's also a great tool to use to play only whatever I am in the mood for at the time.

I don't mind it, it's kind of enjoyable, but I wouldn't choose to listen to it.

What bugs me the most is that they're playing it on a station I listen to primarily for 90s rock...
