What is this dog?

Weda737

100% Soul free.
She was found abandoned on a chain with a blue pit. We suspect they were used as breeders for some nasty characters.
She is large and loose skinned for a boxer, I suspect some mastiff of some sort. She has no underbite, a nice scissors bite.

You can see she is very underweight. That's Sadie, our last skinny stray we took in beside her, you can see she's a lardo now. Think she's a border collie for size comparison. This bully dog measures at least 24 inches at the shoulder. Slinks down a little when I measure, may be taller.

Fighting breeds are big around here. People are trashy like that. I was told she was boxer by the person her took her off the chain. We don't really know but it would make more sense that she had some mastiff or something. I wouldn't really think boxer when I think of the type who breed pits. I know they have been used for fighting but I just don't feel right about it. No I'm not breed prejudiced. I'm people prejudiced, punk kids breeding dogs for fighting kind of thing. My friend kept the pit, she got first dibs so I took this one, she is a big mushy sweet heart whatever she is.

I'm not much of a dog person, but maybe boxer pit mix? I had a friend with a huge bull mastiff and as mastiff implies, his head was huge. Her snout looks shortened, which might be the pit in her. Both boxer, mastiffs, and pits can have that brindle-like coat.

:shrugs:

I really don't think pit personally, she's so big. The pit found with her was little more than half her height. She was a muscular little blue tank even with her spine protruding. Both had raised a litter recently by the look of it. I tried measuring her again, it's coming really close to 25 inches at the shoulder. She's very thin and still weighs more than our husky lab. The more I look at bullmastiffs and read about them the more I think she has at least some of that in her. I'm curious what my vet will say when I bring her in. I think we will get a better idea when she fills out, her hips and spine are pitiful.

What is this dog? A really lucky one to have found you and is joining your family!

It is hard to say, but we own Boxers and I could see a bit of them in her. There is a high likelihood she has some pit in her and some mastiff for her size. I can say for sure that she is a very pretty mutt. Her face is very sweet. Thanks for improving her life.

Thank you all for your thoughts, I looked up presa canario and though she has a very similar build, her rear is not taller than her shoulders as is typical of that breed. Funny enough though, Sadie is built that way, it's pretty darn adorable. If I had money to throw away I'd try the dna test on several of my dogs just for fun.

I can't wait to see how she looks once she has filled out. I finally get a day off work and would like to work with her on recall. Once she is reliable she can run with my other girls and build some muscle and define her shape. I want her to get healthy and gain, but not get flabby. I do hope she can keep up with my GSD, Kaya. She needs someone to give her a challenge, she rolls everyone else. If she chases she runs over, if she is being chased it's hopeless and she gets bored. Even if the chaser is smart enough to predict her path and cut corners. I could watch my pack all day :)

Boxer def... the other half could be 2-3 different breeds... But one parent was most likely a brindle boxer and the other parent a mix.. the nose is bluish, so wouldn't rule out 25% pitbull..

It would definitely be worth doing a wisdom panel. I'd wager pit in the mix for sure. She looks very mastiff/bully influenced, physically.

What a beautiful girl! I could see boxer. My last boxer girl (also a brindle!) was 75 lbs.. Trying to remember her shoulder height, could swear she was around 23-24" at the shoulder but I only measured it once. And yeah... I'd bet there's some pit in there...

Whatever she is, she's gorgeous. And so lucky. Good luck with her, I hope she lives a long, happy life with you!

Pit mix of some kind.....maybe boxer too.....or some mastiff if she's very large.....
