I've had my corn snake female for more than a few months, and now I have to wonder just exactly what type she is. Her colors seem to get even brighter with each shed. Here's a few pictures of her, sorry for the craptastic angles, I'm no professional photographer. She's only about four to five months, based on her adoption time. She's eighteen inches now, and seems to be growing at a healthy rate. Her name is Takoda, which is a Sioux name literally translating to 'friend to everyone' , we gave her this name based on her demeanor.

They call this Classic, or normal, I like classic. Good luck try not to feed too large of a meal. And let them digest for 2-3 days at 78-80 deg. before handling.

Well I ran a quick search on hypos and it seems to be that she might indeed be a hypo classic, I'm just learning more about my little girl every day. She's moved on to fuzzies now, eats them without a problem, and then curls on her log and suns for a good long while. I researched them for quite a bit before I decided to purchase one, and to think I used to be phobic of snakes, now I'm absolutely crazy about them.

Just be careful about feeding a food item that is too large. Whatever she had eaten in those pics is about the max I would feed right now. The general rule is nothing larger than 1.5X the fattest part of the snake.

As of about 2 years ago, I was deathly afraid of snakes too...now I have 6 of 'em! :crazy01:
 
Oh she'd eaten a fuzzy, that's what I've been feeding her recently. She seems to eat them just fine. I had a minor problem getting her to eat the day before yesterday, then yesterday she finally ate, she was just being finicky. She's a very sweet, docile girl and has given me no problems at all so far. So quick question, how much on average would you say your female corn snakes have grown per month on a regular basis?
 
I've been feeding her fuzzies on a weekly basis, though what exactly do you mean, feeding her by her weight in grams depending on when she ingested her last meal? She's going through a growth phase where she's gaining girth, and from what I've heard from other snake owners some snakes grow lengthwise more so than girth for a short while, then they grow girth wise more so than lengthwise. I can't believe the little thing was only eight inches when I first got her, now she's almost twenty!
 
Well actually that helps a ton, the only problem is the local petco doesn't sell hoppers, since I feed her frozen mice that I just thaw. Is it possible to feed her a fuzzie and a pinkie to make up for the weight of the hopper? I'm just curious as to if that would end up being virtually the same thing.

I actually feed by the weight recommended on the Munson Plan and not the "size" of the food item. When it's in-between sizes or the only thing available, you don't really have a choice but to feed 2 smaller food items.

Somebody else will jump in if I'm wrong here...or just to play devils advocate. ;)
 
Sounds about right Josh! :) The only thing I have to add is that all snakes are different. Like many of us around here, I use the Munson Plan, but I have a few that just don't 'fit' into the plan. Ex: big enough by weight to eat hoppers (kinda like they are 'big boned'...same size as others, just heavier) but a hopper would be too big in comparison to the girth of the snake. I also have one that is just picky. She should be easily taking large hoppers, but she refuses to eat them, so she gets big fat fuzzies instead. So, moral of the story is it all depends on your snake. :D

Oh, and to the OP, very pretty little classic you have there. :)
 
My little Koda seems to be a very healthy eater, though admittedly one of my concerns was when to swap her to bigger food and whatnot , so I'm going out to wal mart today to go and buy a small digital scale. I really do appreciate all the advice on feeding, I'm still trying to find a vet locally to set up routine appointments for her. I want the best for my baby.
