Hey guys i was just wondering whats the difference between a ultra caramel bloodred and a gold dust bloodred? can you tell them apart? to me they look pretty much the same! any advice? thanks in advance! =)

Ultra Caramel and GoldDust (Ultramel Caramel) seem to be visually indistinguishable. I'd think with Bloodred muddying the waters, the problem could be even worse.

what do you mean by with bloodred muddying the waters, the problem could be even worse? yea i was wondering how can anyone tell the difference the two since they look the same! so some gold dust bloodred might be a ultra caramel bloodred?

Bloodred can cause diffusing of the colours, making it even more unlikely that you're able to tell them apart than if they were without the Bloodred.

So yes, theoretically some GoldDust Bloodreds could be Ultra Caramel Bloodreds. Depends what the parents were and whether the breeder has found a foolproof method of telling them apart just by looking at them.

I've produced mixed clutches of GoldDusts & Ultra Caramels by mating two GoldDusts (major mistake). I couldn't tell them apart and when I asked on here, I was told that it wasn't possible visually. I was told that the only way to be certain is with breeding trials as adults.

It's fine as long as you don't mind labelling the hatchlings as "GoldDust or Ultra Caramel" when you sell them. Most people who are into Corn morphs prefer to know exactly what they're buying.

There are no health or inbreeding implications to breeding two GoldDusts.

Ultra vs Ultramel are so hard to distinguish that everyone groans when a clutch that could contain both is hatching....

When I decided what to keep back from this years' babies I made sure to keep 1 ultramel male and 3 regular amel females (all with the same hets) so I wouldn't have that "is it an ultra or ultramel?" problem with their progeny. ALL of their young will be ultramel + possibly other genes. NO ULTRAS! "D

I absolutely did NOT want to keep a pair of ultramels and end up with who knows what as babies. :D
