When should I feed again?

Poor Worm! I had to get pinkies from a different source the other day and I wasn't happy with them but I didn't have a choice. They were very red (like they were bloody) and very shriveled. They puffed back up after thawing but we're still red. I didn't have a choice so I gave them to him and he devoured them like always but today both pinkies were laying in the tank. He was not a fan either. Should I feed him again right away or wait till his next feeding? I picked up more of his usual pinkies today so we have good ones again.

Looking back at the image I had of him eating I don't think that was a pinkie mouse......it looked like a hamster!

Huh? :bang:

I know I've had my share of flashbacks now and again, due to the premature and early and experimental use of psychedelic psychopharmaceuticals, but could you repeat that?

Did you suggest that you fed your hatchling a . . . what? And looking at your previous post, it appears Worm had a regurge?

It's not clear (I actually HOPE it's a typo, because I can't IMAGINE!).

So . . . What's happenin?:shrugs:

I'm sorry this happened, but do not feed your snake again right away. When your snake throws up, it's called "regurgitation" (or regurg for short) and is a serious issue. They lose more than just their meal when they regurg, and there is a protocol that must be followed to get them back to health. Repeated regurging can lead to death, so please follow it exactly. Here is a link to a thread which includes the regurg protocol.

To clarify my little corn was due to eat yesterday. The day before I bought what I thought were 2 pinkie mice. Today he regurgitated them and I had found out they were not mice. They were baby hamsters. I hadn't had a choice in feeding them but they were incredibly red and bloody before giving them to him.

I suspect hamsters would be just as delicious to a snake as mice. I don't think they're too fussy. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong.) I would suspect it was due to something else, like them being really old and yucky like you described. Either way, a regurge is a regurge. Following the protocol will still be required if you want to be sure he gets back to health.

I know you were worried about feeding the little worm, but it is much better to feed a few days late than to feed something that looks "off." PLEASE follow the regurg protocol as specified above.

I'll get the opportunity boy on the protocol. I will never be getting pinkies from that store again either

I hope you don't and I do hope you gave them a piece of your mind on behalf of hatchlings everywhere!

I'm sorry for my confusion at your initial posts as I thought you were uncertain as to what you gave your snake which, well which ISN'T very reassuring on behalf of you or your little sneaky one!

If your little Worn has genuinely had a regurge then you are absolutely doing the right thing by following the protocol.

Please keep us posted!

It was definitely a regurge. I watched him swallow them only to find them both even slimier in his home. He did have the decency to move them out into the open where I would see them rather than staying in the hide.

Ouch!

I'm sorry about that! That's just awful!

But if you follow the protocol and have patience doing it Worm does have a chance at recovery.

When faced with the situation of a hatchling who stubbornly refused to eat going on the 3rd month, and after I tried every suggestion with the pinkies including washing just the head with Dawn dishwashing liquid (my wife thought I was MAD washing a baby mouse's decapitated head with her concentrated soap!), I tried assist-feeding and eventually force-feeding and was probably too enthusiastic as my little one perished after regurgitating a fuzzy's tail! I was horrified and depressed for 3 days!! What I discovered later on (they say hindsight is 20-20 but why does foresight have to be blind?) was that I didn't wait long enough between force-feeding sessions and this was because I was anxious to see my little Noodles (his name) get better and gain some weight!

All this to say, just follow that protocol and have patience doing it! Of course, keep us updated!

I wish you and your little sneaky one the best. You guys will be in my thoughts & prayers!
