When to feed 2 pinks?

Monty

New member
My Monty was bought from a pet store, so i'm not sure his exact age. He was being fed one pink a week from the store. So I've been feeding him one pink. Last feeding though, I fed him and he went into his warm hide like normal. I checked on him again probably about 20 hours later, but he wasn't in his hide! I was shocked. He was out and about, climbing with NO visable lump. I went crazy checking his tank for regurge, but nothing smelled or looked out of the ordinary. Is he digesting his meal that fast? Does that mean I'm not feeding him enough?

PS. I don't have a scale or a way to weigh him at the moment.

I would invest in a little digital scale so you can weigh him--from what I've heard, feed items depend on weight, no age. The general rule is that your snake can be fed something 1.5 times the girth of its stomach.

As of right now, I'm feeding my corn once every five days, one 2-3g pinkie mouse. He's 12 grams and, I think, a few months old. He won't be bumped up to two pinkies until he hits 16 grams in weight. This is going by the Munson Plan.

Well dending on where you get your pinkies you wont have to do double pinks. My corn is 18-20 grams (idk the full weight its hard to weigh him in between poops) but the petstore i get my mice from let me be picky and get pinkies that are just the right size for him so I feed him one larger pink instead of two small pinkies and feeding one means less chance for regurge.

Amy's at 19g now but still eats single pinks mostly. She did just eat the two smallest pinks in the bag to prepare to eat the larger ones. as long as your snake isn't getting chubby (cicular or with fatty deposits) or skinny (loose skin) you're doing it right. remember that the munson plan is a guideline. It was too much for my girl so i modified it.

Well Rapunzel is 19 grams now, I started feeding her double pinks her last feeding at 17 grams and she took them both like a champ. Each pink was 3 grams so she did a 6 gram meal. She's grew so much from the last meal I think I'll be looking at the fuzzies possibly this next feeding.

At the moment she's gaining two grams per feeding and I just fed her last night so I'm looking at her being 21 grams at her next feeding if she continues along this path. The munson plan says at 20 you should switch so that's what I was following.

scratch that not sure what I read but 24g is fuzzies so I'll be holding off on fuzzies until then so at least 2-3 more feedings will be pinks to be safe.

When you weight your snake you have to wait till aftet it poops because the poop inside the snake can throw off the results a bit.

I weigh directly before a feeding which is five days after a meal and being a plasma I hold her up in front of a light to check for blockages or any problems before a feed. I've always heard a 1/3 of a proportionate meal for a corn will go directly into growth and I'm feeding her around 6-7 grams worth of pinks every 5 days.

Yeah but that is just an average. My snake has been getting fed 4 gram pinks every 4 days for a little over a month and still has yet to shed :/

Its actully pretty weird my snake shed about 7-8 weeks ago and was like 11-13 grams after shed. Today I weighed him since he eats tomorrow and he weighed in at 21 grams. He gained so much weight but I have seen a shed.
:shrugs:

That's really weird I got mine at around 11 and she shed within 5 days of getting her. She's now I'm assuming 21 grams as well, it'll be a few days still before I weigh her again but I've had two other sheds since then.
